Bengals OC Jay Gruden downplayed a story from NFL Films' Greg Cosell that claimed the organization has some reservations about Andy Dalton's long-term ceiling.
Citing a member of the organization, Cosell told Yahoo that the Bengals are "not comfortable" with forcing things on Dalton, and "have a few doubts" about him due to arm strength limitations. "I don't know where that came from and why (Cosell) said it," Gruden declared. "If there were reservations about Andy Dalton, there would be a lot more quarterbacks here right now. We know and he knows he has to get better. ... I have no reservations about arm strength. I think he can do it all."

According to NFL Films' Greg Cosell, the Bengals "have a few doubts" about Andy Dalton's upside.
"And there’s some things that they’re not comfortable doing with him," Cosell said. One of the media's foremost tape junkies, Cosell believes Dalton's arm strength limitations are a legitimate concern. OC Jay Gruden successfully worked around Dalton's deficiencies as Cincinnati streaked to a 6-2 start last season, but they became more apparent as the schedule toughened and opposing defenses began to more seriously game-plan for Cincy's rookie signal caller. Dalton will be low-end QB2 in fantasy leagues this season.

Andy Dalton has added ten pounds since the 2011 Scouting Combine and currently weighs in at 225.
Dalton revealed that he got down to 208 pounds by the end of last year, so he decided to hit the weight room this offseason. According to Bengals.com, Dalton's "fastball seems to have more zip" during spring workouts, and he's been fine tuning his mechanics with quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese. Dalton will be a somewhat intriguing back-end QB2 in fantasy leagues this season.

Andy Dalton admits he needs to clean up his footwork and "(be) more consistent on the deep ball."
"Throwing the football all comes down to footwork," Dalton said Monday. "I have to put more air under it and things like that." Dalton's arm strength didn't turn out to be as big of an issue as some had feared during his rookie season, but he's by no means a strong-armed quarterback. Also lacking a true No. 2 receiver, Dalton shouldn't be drafted as a QB1 in 2012.
