Colin Kaepernick spent two weeks in April training with track athletes.
Kaepernick believes he can "get faster and more efficient with his stride." He was certainly fast enough last year, averaging 6.6 yards per regular-season rush and ripping off a 25/264/3 line in three playoff games. With a full offseason under his belt as the starter and Anquan Boldin in the mix, Kaep is primed to go off. A top-three fantasy finish among quarterbacks should surprise no one.

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh has cautioned Colin Kaepernick not to get "too jacked-up."
Kaepernick has spent the entire offseason in the gym. "If you're just talking about weightlifting and upper-body strength, yes, I think there is that fear," Harbaugh said. "It's something we've talked about. 'I don't want you getting too jacked-up, Colin.' I want some speed, quickness, not just (flexing chest his muscles)." It says a lot about Kaepernick's future that getting
too strong
is his coach's fear. Kaepernick could be on the precipice of a colossal fantasy campaign.

Terrell Suggs says he believed Colin Kaepernick was "all hype" before Super Bowl XLVII, but emerged from the game believing Kaepernick is "the truth."
"That kid's the truth," said Suggs. "Going into the game, I thought it was all hype. ... I hate quarterbacks, but that kid is the truth and I have the utmost respect for him. I don’t think he needs to hold his head down at all because he’s going to play in a few [Super Bowls]." In SB47, Kaepernick completed 16-of-28 passes for 302 yards while accounting for two touchdowns and one turnover, and tacking on 62 more yards rushing. We believe Kap is "the truth" in fantasy football, as well.

Colin Kaepernick will begin training for the 2013 season within a week.
Kaepernick is reportedly "steaming" about San Francisco's Super Bowl loss to Baltimore and has already made plans with teammates for a quick training turnaround. Led by Kaepernick, 49ers players will head to Atlanta for workouts. If there were any lingering questions about Kaepernick's "leadership skills" or work ethic, this is a pretty strong answer. On Tuesday, Kaepernick described his breakout 2012 season to reporters "as not being good enough."

Kendall Hunter (Achilles surgery) still expects to be a full go for training camp.
Hunter, who blew out his left Achilles' tendon on Nov. 25, recently resumed sprint work. He won't participate in OTAs or minicamps, but claims he's on track to battle for reps behind Frank Gore come August. Still, it would be an awfully quick recovery for Hunter. Note that Mikel Leshoure's rehab from the same injury lasted roughly 13 months. Leshoure also lacked burst upon return.

Although the 49ers' medical exam of Marcus Lattimore (knee surgeries) yielded positive results according to Jim Harbaugh, the coach says Lattimore must take a "step back" in terms of cutting drills.
"The ACL looks really good for Marcus," insisted Harbaugh. "We're just going to have to take a step back in terms of the cutting because we want that inside of the knee, the lateral side of the knee to heal fully. But we're good." Lattimore conceded he'd be "fine" with sitting out the entire 2013 season. Harbaugh said the 49ers will determine his playing status at a later date.

Mario Manningham agreed to a pay cut to stay in San Francisco, slashing his base salary from $3.6 million to $1.8 million.
Manningham is coming off ACL and PCL reconstruction, so he had no leverage. The total pay cut is actually $2.15 million because Manningham agreed to eliminate a $250,000 offseason roster bonus in addition to a $100,000 workout bonus. Manningham suffered the injury in Week 16 and is not expected to be healthy for training camp. Anything the 49ers get from him in 2013 will be a bonus.

Williams was facing an uphill battle to be ready for the offseason program, but he's reportedly on pace to return at the start of training camp. Manningham was never expected to participate in OTAs, and he's a candidate to start the season on the PUP list. Both will compete for roster spots.
