According to CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, Brandon Jacobs was signed in large part because the 49ers "don't have confidence in" Anthony Dixon and view Kendall Hunter as a "change-of-pace" back.
We had already dumped Dixon, owner of a per-carry average of 3.3 in two years, even in deep Dynasty leagues. The 49ers will ditch him next. While we remain high on Hunter's ability, his Dynasty value is capped by the coaching staff's view that he's a complementary back as a opposed to a lead runner.

Coach Jim Harbaugh expects Kendall Hunter to see more action on offense in 2012.
"He did a fabulous job for us in two phases -– offensively and in the area of special teams," said Harbaugh. Hunter played 28 percent of offensive snaps last year compared to 70 percent for Frank Gore. It would be fair to expect a 10 percent swing to keep Gore healthy down the stretch in his age-29 season.

Kendall Hunter played 288 offensive snaps in 2011 compared to just 52 for Anthony Dixon.
Frank Gore led the way with 70.0 percent of the offensive snaps, followed by Hunter at 28.1 percent and Dixon at 5.1 percent. Even if Harbaugh continues to trot Dixon out for the occasional goal-line carry, it's clear that Hunter is top backup and likely the successor to Gore.

Kendall Hunter rushed four times for 31 yards in the 49ers' NFC title game loss to the Giants.
Hunter flashed his quick feet and big-play ability on a fourth-quarter rush for 18 yards. He did not top seven touches in either of San Francisco's playoff games, but showed enough during the regular season that he'll likely have a bigger -- perhaps significantly bigger -- role in 2012. Hunter will be a young "handcuff" to target in the mid-rounds of 2012 fantasy drafts.

"It's not even an issue anymore," Byham added. "It feels great." The 2010 sixth-rounder will vie for a roster spot as a blocking specialist this summer.
