The 25-year-old was a pal of Mark Sanchez as the Jets' quarterback was growing up. A 2011 seventh-rounder, McKnight will struggle to make the team.

Jets placed WR Scotty McKnight (torn ACL) on the practice squad injured reserve.
The seventh-rounder was known more for being Mark Sanchez's buddy than a legitimate prospect. It's surprising that he remained on the practice squad for two months. The ACL tear will likely kill whatever scant chances he would have to make the roster next summer.

Jets waived WR Scotty McKnight.
It was well known that the Jets drafted McKnight only because he's Mark Sanchez's best buddy. The 227th overall pick, caught one pass in the preseason -- good for a 14-yard score in the finale. He might get a practice squad look.

The Jets don't expect Santonio Holmes (foot) to participate in June's mandatory minicamp.
It's not a surprise, as Holmes is still considered iffy for the beginning of training camp after going down last September. Holmes' injury was serious, but he doesn't seem to be rehabbing with a sense of urgency, instead taking classes at Ohio State. This is a marriage both sides appear keen to end. They almost certainly will in 2014.

Jets WR Stephen Hill admits he didn't "understand the whole football concept" as a rookie.
That could be a problem. Hill also admits he was bothered by the intense media scrutiny. "We’re always on ESPN for something, and it was just a lot," Hill said. "It put pressure on learning, and then having to explain if I messed up, so that’s where most of the pressure was. ... It probably did throw me off during games, you’re just out there running." Hill has been put on notice by coach Rex Ryan, but WRs coach Sanjay Lal believes he could have a big year: "He can be whoever he wants to be." A large part of Hill's progress will depend on who's under center.
