49ers K David Akers has set a single-season franchise record with 38 made field goals this season.
Akers is just two field goals away from tying Neil Rackers for the most ever in one season. He's clearly fantasy's No. 1 kicker, well ahead of Dan Bailey and John Kasay. It's a tribute to both Akers and the 49ers' inept red-zone offense.

49ers agreed to terms with K David Akers on a three-year contract.
After three shaky seasons from 2005-2007, Akers has been a top-five fantasy kicker from 2008-2010. Unfortunately, he can't take his offensive teammates with him to the Bay Area. While Akers is an upgrade on Joe Nedney, he's now just another kicker in fantasy leagues.

Per the NFL's updated free agent release, David Akers is not listed as wearing a transition tag.
The Eagles transition tagged Akers prior to the lockout, but must have since informed the league that the tag no longer applies. Akers is now an unrestricted free agent available to the highest bidder. Rookie Alex Henery will be Philly's clear-cut starter, and projects as a top-ten fantasy kicker in year one.

Under the owners' proposed CBA, teams will not be able to use both the franchise tag and the transition tag in a given year.
The NFL is simply going back to pre-2010 rules. The Eagles applied the franchise tag to Michael Vick and the transition tag to David Akers, knowing one of them could be overturned under a new CBA. Vick will stay franchised, leaving Akers as a UFA. Rookie Alex Henery has taken over as Philly's kicker.

"It's not even an issue anymore," Byham added. "It feels great." The 2010 sixth-rounder will vie for a roster spot as a blocking specialist this summer.
