Bucs rookie S Mark Barron racked up 10 tackles and two passes defensed versus the Giants in Week 2.
"He has shown that he's a quality NFL starter," Schiano said. "He's made plays, he's covered one-on-one. He's been a physical presence. He's got a lot of room to improve, which is exciting, because he's done these things and he really can be a fabulous player." Barron and second-round WLB Lavonte David have emerged as building blocks for Schiano's defense.

Barron missed last week's preseason opener, but he'll be good to go Friday against the Titans. The No. 7 pick will be the Bucs' Week 1 strong safety.

Buccaneers SS Mark Barron is sidelined with a foot injury.
Barron was inactive for Friday's preseason opener, but said he doesn't expect to miss any more games. The Buccaneers are counting on him as their Week 1 starter, so any injury is worth monitoring. Behind him are Larry Asante and Cody Grimm.

Buccaneers signed rookie SS Mark Barron, the No. 7 overall pick, to a four-year contract, including an $8.961 million signing bonus.
Barron was a no-show when the Bucs' rookies reported to team headquarters for training camp on Wednesday, but he'll be in attendance for all full-squad practices. A versatile, heady playmaker who can cover center field as well as stuff the run as an "in the box safety," Barron should be an immediate IDP starter in Tampa's defense. Playing behind an annually leaky front seven, Barron should push for 90-100 tackles during his rookie season.
