The Steelers plan to "supplement" their power-rushing attack with zone-blocking concepts in 2013.
It's one of the changes Ben Roethlisberger was hinting at. Per reporter Mark Kaboly, the Steelers are trying to take advantage of their "all-of-a-sudden big, nimble and young offensive line." The Steelers' rushing attack was ineffective under power plodders Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman last season, wheezing to 3.7 yards per carry and 96.1 yards per game. Pittsburgh has made no secret of its efforts to get more athletic up front, but new feature runner Le'Veon Bell is a better fit for a power offense on paper. That being said, Bell sometimes struggled to get more than what was blocked in college, so perhaps the ZBS will be an asset an outside runs.

In addition to praising his three-down ability, Steelers OC Todd Haley talked up No. 48 overall pick Le'Veon Bell as a workhorse runner.
Bell may be the "safest" of all this year's rookie running back fantasy picks because he will play in the passing game, has a healthy track record, and is a lock for a major year-one role. "Eddie George physical traits," Haley said of Bell. "... He looks like a workhorse back. He's not a guy that you'd shy away from giving it to him 30 times a game." Bell will be an immediate fantasy RB2.

Steelers OC Todd Haley referred to second-round RB Le'Veon Bell as a "three-down back, which is a big thing for us."
Despite weighing in at 230 pounds, Bell is excellent in the passing game. Over his final two seasons at Michigan State, he totaled 67 catches for 434 yards with one touchdown. Already locked in as the starter, Bell has a realistic shot at every-down duties as a rookie. Isaac Redman, LaRod Stephens-Howling and Jonathan Dwyer are simply battling for scraps.

Steelers OC Todd Haley acknowledged that he anticipates No. 48 pick Le'Veon Bell being a "factor" as a rookie.
The Steelers don't love gifting rookies starting jobs, but they are penciling in Bell. "Running back is a position, probably more so than most, that you have a chance to come in and make an impact," said Haley. "Obviously, there's a lot of work ahead of him. He's a young guy, but he's coming from a pro-style offense. A lot of the runs will be very similar to the runs that he was running. So I expect him to get into the mix and be a factor."

Heath Miller (torn ACL) remains without a timetable for a return, but believes "there’s a chance" he'll be ready for Week 1.
"I’m running now. I’m doing everything," Miller said. "I’m not at full speed, but I’ve been able to do everything that they’ve asked me to do. So, I’m pleased and encouraged. It’s been a long process. ... But I’m going to keep taking it one day at a time and get better every day." The Steelers didn't draft a tight end, so they're clearly counting on Miller contributing in 2013. He's too risky to count on as a low-end TE1 for fantasy purposes, however.
