Former Jets and Patriots RB Curtis Martin was one of six players elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday.
Also selected for enshrinement were DT Cortez Kennedy, OT Willie Roaf, C Dermontti Dawson and DE Chris Doleman. DB Jack Butler was voted in by the senior committee. Fourth all-time with 14,101 rushing yards, Martin also tallied 3,329 receiving yards and 100 total touchdowns in a career that featured a first-team All-Pro selection at the age of 31 and five Pro Bowl nods. Amongst the most notable omissions from this year's class are WR Cris Carter, WR Tim Brown, RB Jerome Bettis and coach/executive Bill Parcells.

The New York Daily News' Gary Myers is "optimistic" that former Jets and Patriots RB Curtis Martin will be elected to the Hall of Fame in 2012.
This was his first year of eligibility, and with Marshall Faulk also on the ballot for the first time, Martin wasn't considered terribly likely to get in. He received more votes than Jerome Bettis, however, and with 10 1,000-yard seasons under his belt, he should find himself enshrined in the next few years.

Falcons owner Arthur Blank was seen having dinner with retired RB Curtis Martin on Wednesday.
Blank may be exploring the idea of hiring Martin to the front office. "It was clearly business," the restaurant manager said. "It wasn't two old buddies getting together. It appeared that Curtis was coming into town to see Arthur." There has been talk that GM Rich McKay's job may be on the line this year.

Santonio Holmes (foot) is not participating in voluntary workouts, as expected.
Holmes has been at Ohio State during the first set of Jets minicamps, taking classes and rehabbing his Lisfranc fracture. He admitted he couldn't play if there was a game this week, and may not even be a full go at training camp. Even if Holmes does get back to 100 percent, he should not be considered a starter in fantasy circles. He has recorded one 100-yard day in his last 20 games.

Jets WR Stephen Hill admits he didn't "understand the whole football concept" as a rookie.
That could be a problem. Hill also admits he was bothered by the intense media scrutiny. "We’re always on ESPN for something, and it was just a lot," Hill said. "It put pressure on learning, and then having to explain if I messed up, so that’s where most of the pressure was. ... It probably did throw me off during games, you’re just out there running." Hill has been put on notice by coach Rex Ryan, but WRs coach Sanjay Lal believes he could have a big year: "He can be whoever he wants to be." A large part of Hill's progress will depend on who's under center.
