| C | 1 | Ryan Getzlaf ActiveRyan Getzlaf's third-period major penalty for kneeing Slovakia's Juraj Mikus proved costly, as it led to the game-winning goal by Michal Handzus at the 17:32 mark of the third period. As a result of the loss, Canada was knocked out of the medal contention in the quarterfinals of the World Hockey Championships. "It's a sick way to lose. It's a tough pill to swallow. It hurts," said Getzlaf after the defeat. "It hurts like hell right now. To lose in that fashion is not easy to swallow. The guys worked way too hard to be delivered something like that." He had an assist on Evander Kane's marker in the first frame, while Jeff Skinner and Alex Burrows had the other tallies for Canada in the 4-3 loss. May 17 |
| 2 | Saku Koivu ActiveDo not be surprised if Saku Koivu is centering the third line for the Ducks next season. Koivu signed a one year deal on Wednesday but the 37-year-old has seen his offensive skills diminish in the last few years. The Ducks will likely go after a scoring center in the off-season, moving Koivu down one spot on the depth chart. "It’s about way more than that," GM Bob Murray said in regards to Koivu moving to the third line. "Everybody talks about first, second and third line. We’ve got to get to a point where we have three good lines. It doesn’t matter what the one, two and three is. If anybody’s watching playoff games, it’s not the No. 1 line that wins every freaking game in the playoffs. A lot of times it’s the other guys. We’ve got to get to that point. So I don’t know where he’s going to fit in that mix. We’ll see where that mix fits. He’s definitely in the top nine forwards on any team in the league. That’s all I need to know." May 10 |
| 3 | Andrew Cogliano ActiveAndrew Cogliano played in his 400th consecutive game on Friday. The forward, who was acquired from the Oilers in the off-season has never missed a game in his young career. I just try to keep playing," Cogliano said. "That's the only thing I can really think of. Try to be someone that can do different things and be serviceable. In terms of injury-wise, I'm just trying to stay lucky. I guess I think that's the most important thing of what I've done. Knock on wood. It's always nice to play that many games. Keep going." He has 12 goals and 25 points this season, making him a fringe fantasy player at best in the deepest of pools. Mar 18 |
| 4 | Nick Bonino ActiveNick Bonino (lower body) returned to the Ducks' lineup on Wednesday. Bonino was sidelined for two straight contests. He had two shots on goal in 13:40 minutes of playing time in his return. Mar 15 |
| LW | 1 | Bobby Ryan ActiveThe United States lost for the first time at the world championships, 4-2 on Monday versus Slovakia. The Americans began the worlds with two victories, but fell into a quick 1-0 hole 47 seconds into the game, then a 2-0 one about 15 minutes later. The Ducks' Bobby Ryan and Paul Stastny scored for the U.S. "It was three points we should have had," Team USA forward Bobby Ryan said. "We throw away the first period, even though we dominated the game in many areas. Their goalie was phenomenal, and their defense played a good game. Hopefully this was a wake-up call for us, for the rest of the tournament." May 8 |
| 2 | Niklas Hagman ActiveNiklas Hagman snapped a 10-game goal scoring slump on Tuesday. Hagman has just two goals in 22 games. He surpassed the 20-goal mark three seasons in a row, but he isn't expected to come even close to that milestone this time around. Feb 15 |
| 3 | Jason Blake ActiveJason Blake appears to be fine after a shot ricocheted off his mouth in the third period of Friday night's loss to the Kings. He took a shift near the end of the contest and seems to be OK. Blake should be available for Sunday's contest against the Predators. Mar 17 |
| 4 | Matt Beleskey ActiveMatt Beleskey spent seven minutes in the sin bin in a 2-0 loss Wednesday night. Beleskey now has 13 points and 59 penalty minutes in 54 games this season. Niklas Hagman recorded a team-high six shots on goal. Mar 1 |
| RW | 1 | Corey Perry ActiveCorey Perry scored a goal and registered an assist in a 5-4 shootout loss Tuesday. After winning the 2010-11 Hart Trophy, Perry has taken a significant step back. He has 37 goals and 60 points in 78 games and is poised to snap his streak of three straight 70-plus point seasons. The good news from a fantasy perspective is that he surpassed that 100 penalty minute mark for the fifth straight campaign, so he's still one of the best all-around contributors out there. Apr 4 |
| 2 | Teemu Selanne ActiveTeemu Selanne won't represent Finland at the IIHF World Hockey Championship next month. The tournament will be held in his hometown of Helsinki and in Stockholm, Sweden. However, the "Finnish Flash" has hinted that his participation in international competition is likely at an end, as he decides whether or not to continue playing for another NHL season. Selanne's decision is still expected to come by July 1. Apr 18 |
| 3 | George Parros ActiveThe Anaheim Ducks haven't been in contact with George Parros about a possible contract extension. Parros is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. "We’re just waiting on a phone call," Parros’ agent, George Bazos said. "Normally when you think about re-signing any free agent, it’s encumbent of the team to reach out. I don’t know when they’ll reach out, if at all." Parros had four points and 85 penalty minutes in 46 games in 2011-12. May 17 |
| 4 | Devante Smith-Pelly ActiveDevante Smith-Pelly netted a goal and recorded an assist on Tuesday. Smith-Pelly has 12 points in 47 games this season. Obviously those aren't fantasy worth numbers in standard leagues, but Smith-Pelly might be worth owning in a couple of seasons. Apr 4 |
| 5 | Rod Pelley ActiveRod Pelley scored in his season debut with the Ducks. Anaheim acquired Pelley from New Jersey on Monday as part of a four-player swap. He's more of a defensive forward and he shouldn't be counted on to chip in offensively very often. Dec 15 |
| D | 1 | Lubomir Visnovsky SidelinedIt doesn't appear that Lubomir Visnovsky is ready to call it quits on a 12-year career just yet. The Ducks' blueliner dealt with injuries, a dip in production (27 points in 68 games) and a disappointing season, but the 35-year-old isn't ready to retire his skates right now. "I was very mad during the season because I don't feel comfortable," he said. "I think it was worst season ever for me. My confidence was very low….[But] I want to play. I want to be here with my teammates." Apr 10 |
| 2 | Toni Lydman SidelinedToni Lydman's knee surgery on Monday was a success. Lydman is expected to miss four weeks, so he should be fine for the start of training camp. He had 13 points and 46 penalty minutes in 74 games in 2011-12. Apr 16 |
| 3 | Francois Beauchemin ActiveFrancois Beauchemin's shoulder surgery on Thursday was a success. Beauchemin is projected to need four months to recover. In other words, he should be fine for the start of the 2012-13 season. Apr 23 |
| 4 | Cam Fowler ActiveCam Fowler is headed to the World Hockey Championships in Sweden and Finland as a member of Team USA. The 20-year-old second year defenseman was born in Canada but moved to the States when he was only 18 months old so he has been an American all his life as far as he is concerned. "I consider myself totally American, but I'm proud of the Canadian in me," Fowler says. "Being born in Windsor, there's always that little bit of Canada in me. But I've been Americanized, I guess." Fowler has a wealth of offensive talent and had five goals and 29 points this season after a 10 goal, 40 point rookie campaign. His minus-53 in 158 regular season games leaves a lot to be desired but that will improve when the Ducks do. We strongly recommend him in all keeper pools. Apr 29 |
| 5 | Luca Sbisa ActiveLuca Sbisa was back on the Ducks' blueline against Los Angeles Friday night. Sbisa, who had missed two games because of a back injury, seems fine to activate as he scored his fifth goal of the season in the 4-2 loss to the Kings. In 17:32 of playing time, Sbisa also took three shots on goal and blocked five shots. Mar 17 |
| 6 | Sheldon Brookbank ActiveAlthough he will likely not make a huge impact in any hockey pools, Sheldon Brookbank is on the cusp of having some fantasy value in the deepest of leagues. He is a decent source of penalty minutes and has a career high 11 points, only two less than Toni Lydman. If you are looking for a depth defenceman to move in and out of your lineup, consider Brookbank. Mar 4 |
| 7 | Kyle Cumiskey ActiveThe Anaheim Ducks have called up Kyle Cumiskey. Cumiskey has two goals and 16 points in 36 AHL games this season. He might make his NHL season debut on Tuesday. Feb 20 |
| G | 1 | Jonas Hiller ActiveJonas Hiller gave up five goals in a 5-2 season-ending loss to Calgary Saturday. It was not Hiller's best effort of the season as his record dropped to 29-30-12 with a 2.57 GAA and a .910 save percentage. He ended up playing in 73 games this season as he led all NHL goalies in games played, minutes played and losses. Apr 7 |
| 2 | Dan Ellis ActiveWith the signing of Viktor Fasth on Monday, the Anaheim Ducks aren't expected to retain Dan Ellis. The 31-year-old played in just 10 games this season because of a torn groin muscle. He went 1-5-0 with a 2.72 goals-against average and .911 save percentage, but with Jonas Hiller entrenched as the No. 1 and Fasth as his back up, there is no room in Anaheim for his services. Ellis made $1,500,000 this season. May 22 |
| 3 | Viktor Fasth ActiveViktor Fasth has agreed to a one-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks. Fasth's deal is one-way and he'll reportedly earn $1 million. He's the heavy favorite to enter the 2012-13 campaign as Jonas Hiller's understudy. He had a 2.12 GAA and .931 save percentage in 46 Swedish Elite League games in 2011-12. May 21 |
