| Pos | Role | Name |
| C | 1 | Pavel Datsyuk ActivePavel Datsyuk had a goal and two assists to help Team Russia win the 2012 World Championship's goal medal game. Datsyuk ended up with three goals and seven points in 10 games during the tournament. He had 67 points in 70 games in 2011-12 and has been nominated for the Selke Trophy. May 21 |
| 2 | Valtteri Filppula ActiveRed Wings forward Valtteri Filppula had a hand in all four of Finland's goals as it defeated Kazakhstan 4-1 on Monday in the world championships. The winger assisted on the first two goals and scored the next two, and he now has a team-leading nine points in seven games. Filppula had two assists in five playoff games after breaking out with career highs this regular season, scoring 23 times and collecting 66 points. Pavel Datsyuk also scored in Russia's 4-0 win, though he has been pretty quit in the tournament with only three points in seven games May 15 |
| 3 | Darren Helm ActiveLook for Darren Helm (arm) to have his cast removed next month. Helm suffered lacerated tendons in his right forearm when cut by the skate of Alexander Radulov during Game 1 of the first round of the playoffs over three weeks ago. The restricted free agent to be will most likely re-sign with the Red Wings who value the bottom six forward as he is able to score 10-plus goals per year and play great defense. He should be ready to go for the start of training camp although his lack of offensive numbers will make it hard to draft him in anything but the deepest of fantasy pools in 2012-13. May 4 |
| 4 | Cory Emmerton ActiveCory Emmerton might make his playoff debut on Wednesday. Emmerton is currently penciled in to play on the fourth line with Gustav Nyquist and Tomas Holmstrom. However, the Red Wings will shake up their bottom two lines if Darren Helm (knee) is available. Emmerton had 10 points in 74 regular season games. Apr 11 |
| 5 | Joakim Andersson ActiveJoakim Andersson has been summoned by the Detroit Red Wings. Andersson was promoted because Justin Abdelkader is questionable Friday due to the flu. He has 16 goals and 35 points in 54 AHL contests this season. Mar 9 |
| 6 | Tomas Tatar ActiveTomas Tatar recorded two assists in Team Slovakia's 5-1 victory over Belarus in the 2012 IIHF World Championship. Tatar had 24 goals and 58 points in 76 AHL games this season. He has a goal in nine career NHL contests. May 12 |
| LW | 1 | Henrik Zetterberg ActiveHenrik Zetterberg will play for Sweden in the world championships. The Wings have a number of guys who will be participating, as Jonathan Ericsson and Johan Franzen also will play for Sweden. Jimmy Howard and Justin Abdelkader will join Team USA. Action will begin May 4. Apr 24 |
| 2 | Jiri Hudler ActiveJiri Hudler might decide to test the free agent waters. Hudler is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. He made $3 million in 2011-12 and figures to get a raise in what might be a thin free agent market. Hudler bounced back from a rough 2010-11 campaign with 25 goals and 50 points in 81 games this season. May 24 |
| 3 | Todd Bertuzzi ActiveTodd Bertuzzi hasn't recorded a point in four postseason contests. So far Bertuzzi's biggest contribution to their first round series has been his fight with Shea Weber early in Game 2. Bertuzzi has finished each playoff game with a negative rating and while he's not known as one of the team's offensive leaders, they could certainly use more secondary scoring going into Game 5. Detroit is currently one game away from elimination. Apr 19 |
| 4 | Justin Abdelkader ActiveJustin Abdelkader has three points in five games with Team USA in the 2012 IIHF World Championship. Abdelkader didn't play much of an offensive role for Detroit in 2011-12, so this is a nice sign. All the same, he's projected to start the 2012-13 campaign as a bottom-six forward. May 12 |
| 5 | Drew Miller ActiveDrew Miller potted a marker, but the Detroit Red Wings came up short against the Nashville Predators on Saturday night, losing 3-2. With 13 goals and 24 points in 67 games, Miller really isn't fantasy relevant, though he does have three more goals and five more points than he's ever notched in his career. Justin Abdelkader had the other marker, his eighth of the season, and he also finished a plus-two. Mar 10 |
| 6 | Gustav Nyquist ActiveTeammates have been taking note of Gustav Nyquist’s strong play. Whether he remains on the top line with Pavel Datsyuk and Johan Franzen in Game 4 on Thursday against the Predators remains to be seen. If he does, it’s well earned because his effective play in Game 3 was very much noticed. Nyquist has not recorded a point in his two previous playoff games, but it is not for lack of setting up teammates. Apr 17 |
| RW | 1 | Johan Franzen ActiveJohan Franzen suffered a broken nose during the 2012 IIHF World Championship. Franzen sustained the injury when Dmitri Kalinin cross-checked him. "I just talked to Mule," Red Wings GM Ken Holland said. "He has a broken nose, but otherwise (is) OK." It's worth noting that the possibility of a concussion hasn't been completely ruled out, but Holland said Franzen "sounded good." May 12 |
| 2 | Daniel Cleary ActiveDaniel Cleary underwent knee surgery on Tuesday. Cleary "will be ready for camp," according to Red Wings GM Ken Holland. Cleary had spent almost the entire season playing through the knee injury. That probably contributed to him ending up with just 33 points in 75 games. May 9 |
| 3 | Tomas Holmstrom ActiveTomas Holmstrom and the Red Wings will discuss the forward's future in the next couple of weeks. Holstrom has helped lead the Red Wings to four Stanley Cups since joining the club in 1996. The 39-year-old played in his 1,000th game this season, but whether he will play in another Detroit -- or anywhere else -- is in question. May 22 |
| 4 | Chris Conner ActiveChris Conner practiced with the Red Wings on Monday and could crack the lineup as the playoffs begin. Conner was called up by the Wings on Saturday and the 28-year-old very well could find himself in the lineup in a depth role. Coach Mike Babcock has been disappointed in the play of his third and fourth lines. Conner had 16 goals and 53 points in 57 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins this year. Apr 10 |
| 5 | Jan Mursak ActiveJan Mursak was in Detroit's lineup on Tuesday. It was just Mursak's second game of the season with Detroit. Mursak missed most of the first half of the 2011-12 campaign with a fractured ankle. He had an assist in 8:03 minutes of playing time Tuesday. Jan 18 |
| 6 | Patrick Eaves SidelinedPatrick Eaves (concussion/jaw) has been able to skate recently, but not practice. Of course with Detroit eliminated from the playoffs, Eaves focus has shifted to being ready for the start of the 2012-13 campaign. "I'm having less and less headaches," Eaves said. "I'm able to work out a little bit harder. I just have to stay with it. I'm very confident I'll be ready. We have some time here where I can recover, keep getting treatment. Should be good to go." Eaves hasn't played since Nov. 26. Apr 28 |
| D | 1 | Nicklas Lidstrom ActiveNicklas Lidstrom isn't ready to make a decision regarding his future. "I've been taking my time and I haven't really gotten to that process yet," said Lidstrom on Friday. "I haven't really gotten any closer to a decision." Red Wings GM Ken Holland is hoping that Lidstrom will reach a decision by mid-June so that Detroit can factor it into their free agency plans. Lidstrom indicated that he'll make his decision by then. May 19 |
| 2 | Niklas Kronwall ActiveThe favored Detroit Red Wings find themselves down 3-1 in their best-of-seven series against the Nashville Predators, and star defenseman Niklas Kronwall believes it has more to do with their own incompetence than the Preds' competence. "We played well enough to win, but we're making some huge mistakes and giving up freebies," Kronwall said. "Gotta give them credit, but I don't think they had to fight very hard for their goals. We've got to stay positive and stay the course." Apr 18 |
| 3 | Kyle Quincey ActiveDefenseman Kyle Quincey is looking forward to playing the whole season with the Detroit Red Wings. Quincey was dealt to the Red Wings from Colorado through Tampa Bay on February 1 and found it a bit difficult to adjust to a new role. "It's just a different role (after a trade)," Quincey said. "You get a role on any team. You come here, and you have to find your new role. Every team you go on, you're going to be in a different role. That's part of the game. That's why they pay you. After a while you kind of see where you fit in. Special teams are where I fit in here the most. You know your role. You come to the rink every day and you know what you have to focus on." Quincey is a restricted free agent come the first of July but expect him to re-sign with the Red Wings who gave the Lightning their first round pick in June's draft to acquire Quincey. He was also named to Team Canada on Saturday for the World Tournament as the Canadians suffered an injury to their blueline when P.K. Subban was sent home. May 6 |
| 4 | Brad Stuart ActiveBrad Stuart is expected to ponder his future for weeks before he engages in serious talks with Red Wings GM Ken Holland. Stuart is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. "I told Stuey, 'Go home, take a month with your family'; told his agent I would talk to him prior to the draft,’" Holland said. Stuart is believed to be seriously thinking of signing with a California team, preferably the San Jose Sharks, to be closer with his family. The Sharks could certainly use Stuart, especially when it comes to killing penalties. San Jose ranked 29th in the league this season with a 76.9% penalty killing success rate. May 11 |
| 5 | Ian White ActiveIan White skipped Saturday's practice so that he could rest his sore foot. This is just an FYI, as White is still expected to play on Sunday. He suffered the injury while blocking a shot during Game 2 of Detroit's first round series. "I've been hit in the foot with the puck many times," White said. "I was pretty sure it wasn't broken. One of those things. Take a puck in the foot it's going to hurt." Apr 14 |
| 6 | Jonathan Ericsson ActiveJonathan Ericsson (back) is optimistic that he will return for Sweden in the quarterfinals of the world championship, which begin Thursday. Ericsson sustained a lower-back injury in Game 1 of the world championship, and Detroit thought the rearguard would miss the rest of the tournament. He told Sweden's Aftonbladet that he hopes to be in there in a few days. Red Wings general manager Ken Holland called it "good news." May 15 |
| 7 | Jakub Kindl ActiveJakub Kindl (upper body) will play for the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday. Kindl has a goal and 11 assists in 50 games this season. He hasn't played since March 4. Mar 24 |
| G | 1 | Jimmy Howard ActiveDetroit Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard registered a shutout for Team USA in a 5-0 win against Finland, clinching a quarterfinals spot for the United States. Howard stopped all 18 shots he faced. The U.S. will take on Switzerland in the quarterfinals on Tuesday. May 13 |
| 2 | Ty Conklin ActiveTy Conklin kicked out 27 of 31 shots in a 4-2 loss Wednesday night. Conklin allowed two goals in each of the second and third periods. He has been filling in while Jimmy Howard deals with a groin injury. Mar 28 |
| 3 | Joey MacDonald SidelinedJoey MacDonald (back) is expected to get a cortisone shot on Monday. "Hopefully that'll settle it down," MacDonald said. "(The doctor) was real positive. He didn't think there would be surgery." He won't play on Saturday and he should also be considered very doubtful for Monday and Wednesday's contests. Mar 24 |
