| C | 1 | David Krejci ActiveDavid Krejci contributed to the Czech Republic's 3-2 win against Finland, earning his country the bronze medal at the 2012 IIHF World Championships. Ales Hemsky fed Krejci for what ended up being the game-winning goal. Petr Prucha and Jiri Novotny were the other Czech goal scorers while Mika Pyorala and Jussi Jokinen found the net for Finland. The Finns took a huge shot advantage in the third period but Jokinen was the only player who could score. May 20 |
Patrice Bergeron ActivePatrice Bergeron admits that his strained oblique muscle caused him to play at "just 60 percent" in Boston's first-round playoff exit against Washington. He aggravated the injury in Game 5 and wasn't able to take faceoffs in Games 6 and 7 as a result. Bergeron enjoyed a solid year in 2011-12 with 22 goals and 64 points in 81 games, but he will be seeking more next year. "I think each and every year everyone gets better, everyone wants to be better," he said. "The teams are improving and it's about you staying above that and trying to be the best that you can and this summer's going to be no different. We all need to do that look yourself in the mirror type of thing and just bring more. But you always need to do that even if you win a championship." May 3
Chris Kelly ActiveThe Boston Bruins would like to bring back pending unrestricted free agent Chris Kelly. GM Peter Chiarelli is currently negotiating with Kelly on a new contract after his four-year, $8.5 million deal is set to expire. He notched 20 goals and 39 points, with a plus-33 rating, in 2011-12. May 23
Gregory Campbell ActiveGregory Campbell is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Campbell is one of the better fourth line forwards in the league and we wouldn't be surprised if he ends up re-signing with Boston. He made $1,200,000 in 2011-12 and he might get a mild raise this summer. May 4
Marc Savard I.L.Marc Savard (concussion) isn't close to being ready to play hockey and it remains to be seen if he'll ever play in another NHL game. "I’ve had a lot of issues obviously," Savard said. "They were a lot of different things. This year I was at home a lot and I tried to help out my son coaching and getting on the ice a little bit. Even doing just [getting on the ice coaching] I wouldn’t feel well afterward: lightheadedness, a little bit of an upset stomach all the time. But the biggest issue I’ve had, of course, is the memory issues. It’s very frustrating. It’s something I hope I don’t have to deal with for the rest of my life." Savard hasn't played since Jan. 22, 2011. He also added that he wishes there was a "black and white rule for head shots." May 4
| LW | 1 | Milan Lucic ActiveMilan Lucic had three assists in his previous two games heading into Wednesday's Game 7, but he was fairly silent in Washington's 2-1 overtime victory that propelled them into the second round of the playoffs. He had no points and no shots during his 19:50 of ice time and failed to produce a goal in the seven-game series. Lucic's regular linemate David Krejci was also held in check for the majority of the series with a goal and two assists, while Patrice Bergeron couldn't muster a single goal while playing through injury and Brad Marchand scored just once in the series. Boston's best players couldn't find a way to beat Capitals goalie Braden Holtby and they seemed to lack energy in Game 7 on Wednesday night. Apr 26 |
Brad Marchand ActiveThe fatigue of winning the Stanley Cup in 2011 might have finally caught up with the Boston Bruins in the first round of the 2012 playoffs. Brad Marchand had trouble distinguishing when the 2010-11 campaign ended and the 2011-12 season began. To him, the last two years have felt like a single marathon campaign. "It definitely felt that way," said Marchand. "The summer felt like it was a week long last year. It has been a long year, a long two years. It’s been tough. You have to make sure you prepare. There’s different ways to get up for games. When you’re not as excited or able to get up for games — like we were able to last year — it can get a little tough." Winning back-to-back Stanley Cups is extremely rare, but the Bruins will have a long summer this year. May 4
Benoit Pouliot ActiveBenoit Pouliot netted the Bruins' lone goal in a 2-1 double overtime loss in Game 2 on Saturday. Brian Rolston and Chris Kelly assisted on Pouliot's goal. Shawn Thornton of all people led the Bruins in shots on goal with five. Zdeno Chara and Dennis Seidenberg each logged over 33:30 minutes of ice time. Apr 14
Daniel Paille ActiveDaniel Paille is slated to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, but he would like work out a new deal to remain in Boston. He has helped form a successful fourth line alongside Shawn Thornton and Gregory Campbell, who can also become an unrestricted free agent in July, with the Bruins. "Right now, I'm just going to focus on trying to get a contract here. Hopefully, things work out before July 1, and if not, anything can happen," Paille said. "But obviously I'd like to stick around here as much as I can. Hopefully, we can come back here and be a line again together and try to recapture the glory that we had last year." Apr 30
Jordan Caron ActiveJordan Caron suited up for the Bruins in Game 6 and Game 7 in the place of tough guy Shawn Thornton. Thornton was a healthy scratch for the final two games of the series, while Caron didn't do anything of note during the limited ice time he saw versus Washington. He logged 4:56 on Sunday and played 8:25 on Wednesday. The two postseason games he played in were the first of his NHL career. Apr 26
| RW | 1 | Nathan Horton SidelinedAgent hopes Nathan Horton is on track to be ready for training camp. A concussion sidelined Horton for the final 36 games of the regular season, and ultimately the postseason as symptoms persisted. While Horton’s agent, Paul Krepelka, offered nothing revealing, he indicated that they "hope he is good for the start of training camp." May 22 |
Brian Rolston ActiveBrian Rolston isn't sure if he'll retire this summer. Rolston managed to turn his career around in Boston, with three goals and 15 points in 21 regular season games. He also had a goal and three points in seven playoff contests. He'd like to re-sign with Boston if he decides to return for the 2012-13 campaign. Apr 27
Tyler Seguin SidelinedTyler Seguin will likely undergo surgery to repair a detached tendon in his left hand. Despite the fact that he played through a lot of pain in the Bruins' first round series against the Capitals, Seguin was rather effective. He scored the game-winning goal in Game 6, and was one of the more dangerous Bruin forwards in the series. Seguin should be fully recovered by training camp and posied to resume his ascent to stardom in the NHL. Apr 29
Rich Peverley ActiveRich Peverley filled in for injured center Patrice Bergeron in the faceoff circle during Sunday's 4-3 overtime win in Game 6 versus Washington. He won 13 of the 24 draws he took and scored his third goal of the postseason in the contest to help the Bruins force Game 7. Peverley's 22:36 of ice time was the second highest among the team's forwards in Game 6 and he was praised again for his versatility after the match by coach Claude Julien. Apr 23
Shawn Thornton ActiveShawn Thornton may return to the lineup on Wednesday night for Game 7 versus Washington. Jordan Caron took his spot in Game 6 while he watched from the press box as a healthy scratch, but the veteran tough guy can provide grit and energy that could prove to be useful in a win or go home environment. Apr 25
| D | 1 | Zdeno Chara ActiveSuperstar defenseman Zdeno Chara suffered a broken nose in Game 6 of the Boston Bruins' opening-round series thanks to a high stick from the Washington Capitals' Alexander Ovechkin, according to Boston general manager Peter Chiarelli. Chara, one of the finalists for the Norris Trophy, presented each Boston player with a gift after their series loss to the Caps. The captain presented his teammates with a framed photo and a game summary from his 1,000th career game, March 24 against the Los Angeles Kings. "I love every guy we have in this room. I’m very proud to be their teammate,’’ Chara said. "It’s just something for them to have. I felt it was a special day in my career.’’ Apr 28 |
Dennis Seidenberg ActiveDennis Seidenberg, and probably the rest of the Boston Bruins as well, is still in a bit of shock after their season was ended on Wednesday night in the first round of the postseason by Washington. "It's such a weird feeling," he said. "You play a hard, tight game. Suddenly a bounce goes against you and the season's over. For the first few minutes, even right now, you're wondering what time practice is tomorrow. But there is no practice." Every game in the seven-game series was decided by one goal and that one mistake often times was the difference in the outcome. In overtime, that bounce went to the Capitals and they seized the moment to advance into the second and knock out the defending champions. Seidenberg posted three points, 29 hits, 16 blocks and 17 shots in the playoffs. Apr 26
Joe Corvo ActiveJoe Corvo probably won't be back with Boston next season, as he is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. He does possess offensive skill from the point, but he struggled to produce with the Bruins this past season. Corvo recorded four goals and 25 points in 75 games after he had 11 markers and 40 points from the back end in 2010-11 with Carolina. He was expected to help the team's power play, but generated just one goal and eight assists when Boston had the man advantage. Corvo also didn't have the best showing in his own zone when it came to turnovers, despite the fact that he finished with a plus-10 rating, which led to him being a healthy stretch frequently down the stretch. May 3
Johnny Boychuk ActiveJohnny Boychuk scored a goal and registered an assist in Saturday's 4-3 loss to Washington in Game 5 of their first round series. Brad Marchand had his first goal and first assist of the series on Saturday. Dennis Seidenberg also scored a goal and registered an assist, giving him three points in the playoffs. Rich Peverley, Milan Lucic, David Krejci each recorded an assist in the losing effort. Apr 21
Andrew Ference ActiveAndrew Ference is hoping to have a better game Sunday than he did Saturday. Ference was on the ice for three of Washington's four goals in the 4-3 loss. On the positive side, he did lead the Bruins in shots with seven. If Andrew Ference is leading your team in shots, no wonder you aren't winning games. Apr 22
Adam McQuaid SidelinedAdam McQuaid doesn't appear as though he will be available to play in Game 7 on Wednesday night, as his status from a head/eye ailment remains the same according to coach Claude Julien. He hasn't played in any playoff games to this point and didn't travel with his teammates to Washington for Game 6 on Sunday. Apr 24
Mike Mottau ActiveMike Mottau skated alongside Greg Zanon for most of Tuesday's practice, so he might remain in the lineup for Game 7 on Wednesday night. He dressed in Sunday's Game 6 victory over Washington after Joe Corvo was ruled out due to an undisclosed ailment. Coach Claude Julien said Monday that he expects Corvo to be available, but it that doesn't guarantee his spot on the Bruins' blueline. Mottau logged just 9:21 of ice time though in his first playoff appearance with Boston, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Corvo return if he's healthy enough. Apr 25
Greg Zanon ActiveGreg Zanon potted a goal in the Bruins' 3-1 win over the Senators Thursday nighté Zanon is a great a physical player and does a great job moving the puck but his fantasy value is very limited. Apr 5
Torey Krug ActiveTorey Krug recorded his first career point in Boston's 3-1 victory over Ottawa. Krug assisted on Milan Lucic's goal in his second NHL game. He's finishing the season with Boston after being named the CCHA Player of the Year with 12 goals and 34 points in 38 NCAA games. He's worth keeping an eye on next season. Apr 6
| G | 1 | Tim Thomas ActiveBruins president Cam Neely doesn't sound like a man looking to trade Tim Thomas. "We’re very happy with our goalies. We have two strong goalies in both Tim and Tuukka," said Neely. "I think a lot of teams are probably envious of what we have here. It’s an area were we feel pretty comfortable." Of course that might simply be them trying to position themselves as being willing to keep Thomas in the hopes that any potential trading partner won't feel like they have the upper hand. With Tuukka Rask scheduled to become a restricted free agent this summer, keeping both of their goaltenders could significantly eat away at their 2012-13 cap space. May 4 |
Tuukka Rask ActiveTuukka Rask is scheduled to be a restricted free agent this summer. Rask has a 2.20 GAA and .926 save percentage in 102 career games, so he'll probably get a significant raise after coming with a $1,250,000 cap hit in 2011-12. It's possible that the Bruins will trade Tim Thomas and that would lead to Rask taking over as the team's starting goaltender. If the Bruins decide to keep Thomas, then the two will probably share the goaltending duties pretty evenly in 2012-13. Apr 27
Marty Turco ActiveMarty Turco allowed five goals on 27 shots in the Bruins 5-3 loss to Pittsburgh Tuesday. With the Northeast Division now in hand, the Bruins feel comfortable giving Tim Thomas a night off and letting Turco shake of some of his rust. Judging by how Turco has played with Boston, the team should pray that Thomas can stay healthy throughout the postseason. Apr 3
Anton Khudobin ActiveAnton Khudobin could be a benefactor if Tim Thomas is traded over the summer. If Thomas is dealt, then Khudobin will probably be put in a position to compete for the backup job in 2012-13. Khudobin is coming off a solid season where he posted a 2.61 GAA and .919 save percentage in 44 AHL games. Apr 27
