| C | 1 | Brad Richards ActiveCoach John Tortorella is confident that Brad Richards will rebound from his lackluster performance on Wednesday when the Rangers play at New Jersey in Game 6 Friday. He played a postseason-low 16:11 of ice time, while posting a minus-2 rating and four shots, in Game 5's 5-3 loss to the Devils. Tortorella commented that Richards "will find his way. I know his makeup." The team's top center has elevated his game when it has mattered most during New York's playoff run and they'll need him to step up again to force Game 7 in the Eastern Conference Finals. Richards leads the team in playoff scoring with six goals and 14 points in 19 games, but he hasn't been able to find the back of the net versus New Jersey so far in the series. May 24 |
Derek Stepan ActiveDerek Stepan didn't skate on Tuesday, after blocking a shot with his foot in the Eastern Conference final opener, but he is expected to play in Game 2 on Wednesday night. His big toe was bandaged after it was struck by a shot from New Jersey's Ilya Kovalchuk at 12:29 of the first period. Stepan was able to stay in the game and finish with 17:33 of total ice time. He has recorded one goal and seven helpers in 15 playoff contests. May 16
Artem Anisimov ActiveArtem Anisimov concluded Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals with a mere 8:56 of ice time. He sat for a 12-minute stretch following his first shift of the contest and then was kept on the bench for the first six minutes of the second period. Anisimov registered an assist, had no shots and two penalty minutes despite his limited playing time. He has nine points in 16 playoff games. May 17
Brian Boyle ActiveBrian Boyle had a spectacular night in the faceoff circle in Game 5 on Wednesday. He won 13 of 14 draws for a 92.9 percent efficiency rating. The big center also added four hits in the Rangers' 5-3 defeat. Boyle had three goals in his first three games of the playoffs, but he hasn't been able to score since then and has tallied just three assists over 11 contests after he returned to the lineup from a concussion that he sustained versus Ottawa in Round 1. May 24
John Mitchell ActiveJohn Mitchell appears as though he will be a healthy scratch for Game 5 on Wednesday night. He remained out on the ice, skating as an extra, after the other players headed off and Brandon Dubinsky, who is being speculated to return, left with them. If Mitchell isn't in the lineup then it will mark the first time he has not dressed for a game since March 6. He has one assist in 18 playoff games. May 23
Kris Newbury ActiveKris Newbury has been summoned from the Connecticut Whale to the New York Rangers. Newbury, along with five other teammates from the Whale, were called up strictly for depth in case an injury strikes one of the Rangers during the rest of the playoffs. Newbury played seven games with the big club this season, tallying 24 penalty minutes. He was very productive in the AHL, though, with 25 goals and 64 points to go with 130 penalty minutes. May 14
| LW | 1 | Brandon Dubinsky ActiveBrandon Dubinsky registered an assist and three hits, while garnering 15:38 of ice time, in his return to the lineup Wednesday night from an ankle injury. He played well alongside Ryan Callahan and Artem Anisimov in the contest. "I felt good," said Dubinsky, who has no goals and two assists in eight playoff games. "It's the Eastern Conference Finals and it's a fast game, so it takes two or three shifts to get in there and try to get your timing." May 24 |
Carl Hagelin ActiveCarl Hagelin will be eligible to return Monday after serving his three-game suspension. The Rangers could certainly use his speed after falling behind in the series against the Senators. Apr 22
Michael Rupp ActiveMichael Rupp was assessed 14 minutes in penalties for his rambunctious shift early in the third period of Monday night's 4-1 loss to New Jersey. He was given four minutes for roughing after he committed a late hit on Peter Harrold behind the net and punched goaltender Martin Brodeur in the mask. Rupp was also given a misconduct penalty. Following the contest, Brodeur joked about the incident by saying, "Things like that happen in the playoffs. I'm glad I didn't get hurt. I'm a tough guy. It stung me a little ... Now I know I can take a punch." Rupp has no points, 25 hits and 36 penalty minutes in 18 playoff games. May 22
Chris Kreider ActiveChris Kreider has now received $300,000 in bonuses for playing in 15 playoff games. Kreider netted his fifth postseason goal on Saturday to set an NHL record for the most playoff goals before participating in a single regular season game. He earned $25,000 for playing in five postseason contests, another $100,000 after the 10-game mark, and an additional $175,000 for reaching the 15-contest milestone. May 19
| RW | 1 | Marian Gaborik ActiveMarian Gaborik, the New York Rangers' top gunner in the regular season, finally scored his first goal of the Eastern Conference finals and gave fans at Madison Square Garden plenty of hope before he and his teammates fell 5-3 to the New Jersey Devils Wednesday night. The Devils lead the Eastern Conference finals 3-2 and can advance to the Stanley Cup finals with a win at home against the Rangers on Friday night. The Rangers were down 3-0 before the first period was half over, but Gaborik's goal tied the game at 3-3 only 17 seconds into the third period. The Garden rocked, but the Devils' Ryan Carter scored the game-winning goal late in the third and an empty netter by Zach Parise sealed the triumph. Despite the loss, Rangers coach John Tortorella said: "''I thought we probably played our best game of the series tonight.'' Also scoring goals for the Rangers were Ryan Callahan and Brandon Prust. May 23 |
Ryan Callahan ActiveRyan Callahan put forth an inspiring effort in Game 5's 5-3 loss to New Jersey. He netted his fifth goal of the playoffs and led all players with six hits in the loss. The Rangers captain is aware of the challenge that faces his team, but he is confident that they can respond. "There wasn't too much said in the room," he said after the game. "We knew we had to claw our way back and we did . . . We've been good on the road all year. We've just got to win one road game." May 24
Ruslan Fedotenko ActiveRuslan Fedotenko scored, but the New York Rangers dropped Game 4 of the Eastern Conference final 4-1 to the New Jersey Devils on Monday night. The veteran's goal was his first of the postseason and just his fifth playoff point. Though the third-period marker gave the Rangers a little bit of hope, New York was still down 3-1 at that point and was unable to make the game any closer. Brad Richards and Michael Del Zotto had the assists. Mike Rupp had 14 penalty minutes, while Stu Bickel finished with 12. Over their last 11 playoff games, the Rangers have not won consecutively and as a result, this series is tied at two with Game 5 at Madison Swuare Garden on Wednesday night. May 21
Brandon Prust ActiveBrandon Prust will be back in New York's lineup on Wednesday night after serving his one-game suspension. He was suspended for Game 4 because of an elbow he delivered to the back of New Jersey blueliner Anton Volchenkov's head. Prust has one assist and 27 penalty minutes in 17 playoff games, but is an energetic player and a valuable penalty killer. He has also picked up 17 shots and 49 hits during the Rangers' postseason run. May 23
Mats Zuccarello SidelinedMats Zuccarello has declared himself available to return from his fractured wrist. "If they need me, I'll be ready," he said after the team's skate on Thursday. However, it is likely that he will watch Game 6 from the press box unless something unforeseen happens between now and Friday night. He hasn't played since March 23rd and required surgery to repair the damage. May 24
| D | 1 | Daniel Girardi ActiveDaniel Girardi scored the game winning goal while the Rangers had the man advantage in Saturday's 3-0 victory over the Devils. It was the fourth goal in 10 power-play chances for the Blueshirts. The New York power play has been hardly dominating in this series, but it is getting the job done and has certainly been more successful than the Devils'. May 20 |
Marc Staal ActiveMarc Staal recorded his third goal of the postseason in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to New Jersey in Game 2. Rookie Chris Kreider had the Rangers' other marker in the defeat, while Brad Richards, Daniel Girardi, Anton Stralman and Artem Anisimov added an assist apiece. Team captain Ryan Callahan was credited with five hits in the match, but he failed to record a point in his fourth straight game and he hasn't found the back of the net in his last six. May 17
Michael Del Zotto ActiveMichael Del Zotto spent some time in the doghouse in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Monday night after making several mistakes defensively. He logged a postseason-low 11:39 of ice time, but he did collect an assist on Ruslan Fedotenko's first goal of the spring in the third period. Del Zotto was playing in his first game since his grandmother passed away over the weekend and he saw just one shift in the second period. "It was a struggle for him," coach John Tortorella said. "He hasn't had many games like that this year. With the extra D we dressed, we just wanted to take a little pressure off him and let him watch for a bit." Stu Bickel started the game as a forward, but played on the back end when Del Zotto was benched. The 21-year-old defender will look to refocus and rebound in Game 5 on Wednesday. May 22
Ryan McDonagh ActiveRyan McDonagh posted a game-high eight blocked shots in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils. The Rangers blocked 16 shots to the Devils' seven in the contest, but New Jersey made the most of their opportunities to tie the series at 1-1 going back home. McDonagh has amassed 50 blocked shots in 16 playoff games and has looked great defensively despite his minus-3 rating. May 17
Michael Sauer I.L.Michael Sauer (concussion) has suffered a setback. Sauer has stopped skating or working out. He hasn't played since December 5th and we doubt he'll return anytime soon. Jan 23
Anton Stralman ActiveAnton Stralman is happy with where his game is at right now. "When I first got here, I knew I had to change my defensive part of the game and be more accountable," he said. "That was my main focus for a lot of times, and along the way, I kind of lost the offensive part of it a little bit. That's my real game, the offense. I'm trying to find it. It's been frustrating sometimes not being able to pull it out. But as of right now, I feel pretty good about it, obviously helping the team and scoring some goals and being a little more offensive and trying to create some stuff without sacrificing any stuff from the defense." Stralman has contributed three goals, five points, 13 hits, 19 blocks and a plus-2 rating in 12 games during his first appearance in the postseason. May 9
Steve Eminger ActiveSteve Eminger skated as the team's seventh defenseman on Wednesday at practice. He joined the team's regular six during the session, while Jeff Woywitka and John Scott skated with the other Black Aces. Eminger suited up in Game 1 of the Rangers second-round series against Washington, but has been scratched in six consecutive games since. May 16
Tim Erixon ActiveThe New York Rangers recalled Tim Erixon from their AHL affiliate, the Hartford Whale, on Monday. Erixon received a cup of coffee with the Rangers earlier this season, playing 18 games and recording two assists. He had 30 assists and 33 points in the AHL and is being called up in case of an injury emergency to a player in the regular lineup. Erixon will skate separately with five other AHL teammates in order to stay fresh just in case. May 14
Jeff Woywitka ActiveNew York has brought up Jeff Woywitka from his conditioning assignment with AHL Connecticut. He has six points and a plus-2 rating in 26 games with the Rangers this season, but he isn't projected to crack the team's top-six group. Feb 15
Stu Bickel ActiveStu Bickel will probably be back on the blueline for Game 5 based on Wednesday's optional practice. He is penciled in to replace Steve Eminger on the back end after he started Monday's loss in New Jersey as a forward. May 23
John Scott ActiveWith Ryan Callahan out with a bruised out, trade deadline acquisition John Scott will draw into the Rangers' lineup on Thursday night. Stu Bickel will remain dressed as Marc Staal's defensive partner and Scott will suit up on the fourth line as forward. Mar 1
| G | 1 | Henrik Lundqvist ActiveHenrik Lundqvist hasn't been at his best of late and Wednesday's Game 5 loss to New Jersey was his worst showing of these playoffs. The Devils stormed out to a 3-0 lead before the first period was halfway old on only five shots. "I was right there for the first shot, especially the second one, but I was a little slow to react even though I was in a good position," said Lundqvist. "After that, it was all us." He finished the contest with 12 saves on 16 total shots. The Vezina and Hart Trophy candidate has been superb in the postseason, but he has surrendered seven goals in his last two appearances and both games were losses for the Rangers. He'll have to regain his edge in Game 6 on Friday if he wants to extend his season. May 24 |
Martin Biron ActiveMartin Biron allowed four goals on 31 shots in the Rangers' 5-2 loss to the Penguins Thursday night. Henrik Lundqvist is dealing with swollen right forearm, so Biron was between the pipes tonight in Pittsburgh. Biron was playing in his 500th career game tonight but took the loss against a very strong Pittsburgh club. Apr 5
Chad Johnson ActiveChad Johnson was recalled from Hartford (AHL) to back up Martin Biron for tonight’s game against the visiting Penguins. Because Henrik Lundqvist is still struggling with the flu, the Rangers summoned Johnson for the second time in three days. Johnson served as Biron backup Tuesday against Carolina before being sent back to the Whale. Mar 15
| 4 | Cameron Talbot ActiveThe New York Rangers recalled Cameron Talbot from the Connecticut Whale on Monday night. The Whale's season ended, so the Rangers recalled six guys to provide depth in case of an injury to one of their players during the postseason. Talbot went 14-15-1 with a 2.61 goals-against average and .913 save percentage in the AHL this season. Though he only went 5-4 in the playoffs, he improved on his rates, with a 2.10 GAA and .939 SV%.
