| Pos | Role | Name |
| C | 1 | Henrik Sedin ActiveHenrik Sedin scored the only Vancouver goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to Los Angeles Sunday, eliminating the Canucks from playoff contention. Vancouver can blame some of their playoff scoring woes on the absence of Daniel Sedin for the first three games of the series and some can certainly be chalked up to the excellent play of Jonathan Quick, but a President's Trophy-winning club such as this one truly has no excuse for finding themselves on the wrong end of an upset of this magnitude. The top offseason priority for Vancouver, aside from settling the goaltending situation, is to ensure it has sufficient secondary scoring to take the team on a deep playoff run next spring. Apr 22 |
| 2 | Ryan Kesler SidelinedCoach Alain Vigneault doesn't believe that Ryan Kesler's shoulder injury was the reason for his struggles in 2011-12. Kesler's agent, Kurt Overhardt, was quick to come to his client's defense though and said, "I am not a doctor, I'm a lawyer, but after having conversations with the player and with the club, anyone who thinks this injury did not affect his play must have fallen off a turnip truck." It is believed that the Canucks center completely tore his labrum, which required surgery to repair earlier this month, and his production did slip considerably afterward. Kesler contributed four goals and 11 points in 28 regular season games after sustaining the ailment on Feb. 9 and he managed to add just three assists in five playoff games. He ended up with 22 goals and 49 points in 77 contests after he generated 41 markers and 73 points over 82 matches in 2010-11. May 24 |
| 3 | Manny Malhotra ActiveAfter suffering a serious eye injury last season, Manny Malhotra excelled in the faceoff circle in 2011-12. Malhotra had a 58.5% faceoff success rate in the regular season and won 64.6% of his faceoffs in the playoffs. That's one big positive for him, but he was limited to 18 points in 78 games after recording 30 points in 72 contests in 2010-11. "I definitely feel confident in my abilities and I'm definitely looking forward to this summer and getting back in shape and being ready from the start instead of playing catch-up," said Malhotra. "It's frustrating to not feel the way you want coming out of the gate. I fully believe I can get to that level I'm accustomed to and what I expect of myself." Malhotra has one season left on his contract and comes with an annual $2.5 million cap hit. Apr 26 |
| 4 | Maxim Lapierre ActiveMaxim Lapierre scored his seventh of the season and added two assists in the Cancuks 5-2 win over the Dallas Stars. Lapierre doesn't produce much offensively, but he will contribute some penalty minutes to your cause if you need some. Mar 31 |
| 5 | Samuel Pahlsson ActiveDo not expect to see Samuel Pahlsson back in a Vancouver uniform next season. It was not the return everyone expected when the Blue Jackets dealt the checking center to the Canucks at the trade deadline. The Canucks were expected to challenge for the Stanley Cup and their first round knockout by the Kings have forced the team to re-evaluate. Look for Pahlsson to catch on elsewhere if the 34-year-old wants to play another season. May 11 |
| LW | 1 | Daniel Sedin ActiveAfter playing on Wednesday, Daniel Sedin also skated with the Black Aces on Thursday. Sedin actually talked to the press for almost 13 minutes after practice so it appears that he may be back to his old self. He had a couple of practices before playing in Game 4 but still may not be in tip-top game shape which is likely why he skated on Thursday. Apr 20 |
| 2 | David Booth ActiveDavid Booth will line up for the second time with Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin. The Canucks are on the brink of elimination, trailing 3-1 with Game 5 tonight in Vancouver. Alexander Burrows, Ryan Kesler and Max Lapierre will make up the second unit while Christopher Higgins, Samuel Pahlsson and Jannik Hansen will play on the third line. Apr 22 |
| 3 | Andrew Ebbett ActiveWith Byron Bitz suspended, Andrew Ebbett will play on Friday. Ebbett was a healthy scratch in Game 1. Bitz will be serving the first game in his two-game suspension. Apr 13 |
| 4 | Mason Raymond ActiveMason Raymond’s goal production is not matching his considerable skill. Granted Raymond suffered a broken back during last spring’s Cup final that cut into his 2011-12 campaign. The result was only 10 goals in 55 games. However, Raymond had all of 15 goals in 2010-11 (70 games) making some wonder if his 25-goal effort in 2009-10, his second full season in the NHL, was an aberration. May 15 |
| 5 | Aaron Volpatti I.L.Aaron Volpatti (shoulder) has resumed skating. Volpatti still isn't cleared for contact and he won't play in Game 1 of Vancouver's first round series. He had a goal and 37 penalty minutes in 23 regular season games. Apr 11 |
| RW | 1 | Alex Burrows ActiveAlex Burrows has two goals for Team Canada since returning from a concussion. Burrows sustained the concussion during the tournament, but was fortunately able to return swiftly. It looks like the injury won't hinder his summer training. May 12 |
| 2 | Christopher Higgins ActiveThe Vancouver Canucks have moved Christopher Higgins to the first power play unit. The Canucks have struggled since Daniel Sedin suffered a concussion late in the season and will now try Higgins with Henrik Sedin and Ryan Kesler up front. "We're missing Danny ... but right now it's about finding that player who can do those things," said Henrik. "Higgie hasn't been there before, but I've always liked him. He's a guy that sees the ice really well and works the boards really well." This will increase Higgins fantasy value in playoff pools. Apr 15 |
| 3 | Dale Weise ActiveDale Weise will draw into the Vancouver lineup on Sunday. He will replace Zack Kassian on the fourth line and skate with Mason Raymond and Manny Malhotra. "The Kings' fourth line has been good and spent some quality time in our zone and we need to have a better response," coach Alain Vigneault said of why he is putting Weise in the lineup. "I'm hoping that maybe by making those adjustments we will have a better response." He is worth picking up only in pools that use penalty minutes as a category. Apr 22 |
| 4 | Byron Bitz ActiveByron Bitz is eligible to return from his two-game suspension in Game 4 at Los Angeles on Wednesday night. He received the ban for running Kings' forward Kyle Clifford from behind into the boards during Game 1 of the best-of-seven series. Even though Bitz can play, he isn't expected to draw back into the lineup for Vancouver. Apr 18 |
| 5 | Zack Kassian ActiveZack Kassian will make his playoff debut in his return from a shoulder injury. The big Canucks winger hasn't played since Apr. 3 due to the injury. Kassian will join Manny Malhotra and Byron Bitz on the club's fourth line. The 21-year-old produced 10 points and 51 penalty minutes in 44 games this season between Vancouver and Buffalo. Apr 11 |
| 6 | Steve Pinizzotto I.L.Steve Pinizzotto (shoulder) will not be available for the start of the playoffs. Pinizzotto missed the entire regular season after dislocating his shoulder during the preseason. Even if he was healthy, he might not play in the postseason. Apr 11 |
| D | 1 | Alexander Edler ActiveAlthough he has one goal, Alex Edler's game this postseason has left a lot to be desired. The 25-year-old has lacked confidence as the Canucks have fallen behind 3-0 in their series with the Kings. Though he has seven shots on net, one came in Game 3 as many of his attempts were blocked or missed, plus he's had a number of giveaways, uncharacteristic penalties in Game 3 and lost a number pucks at the blueline. "He really wants to do well and puts a lot of pressure on himself to help the team and some guys handle that differently," said Canucks coach Alain Vigneault. "He’s putting enough on himself right now that we don’t need to add to that. It’s more about relaxing and staying in the moment and a lot times it just comes down to going out there and trying to have fun." Apr 17 |
| 2 | Kevin Bieksa ActiveKevin Bieksa's 34 even strength points in 2011-12 were the second most among all defensemen. He managed to rebound from a sluggish start to the year and finish with a career-high of 44 points in 78 games. Bieksa collected just one assist and a minus-9 rating in the first 10 contests, but he concluded with a plus-12 rating. He was hampered by a slight muscle tear in his core area at the end of the season and it hurt his play in the playoffs, but he isn't expected to require surgery. May 9 |
| 3 | Dan Hamhuis ActiveDan Hamhuis practiced on the first power play unit Saturday. Hamhuis lined up on the blueline with Alexander Edler while Daniel and Henrik Sedin and Ryan Kesler were up front. Christopher Higgins, David Booth and Alexander Burrows will be up front on the second unit with Sami Salo and Kevin Bieksa on the point. Hamhuis is second in TOI in the playoffs as his 24:16 minutes per game trail only Bieksa. Apr 22 |
| 4 | Sami Salo ActiveSami Salo will be back in Vancouver's lineup Wednesday after he was scratched on Monday. He has posted eight goals and 22 points from the blueline in 60 games this campaign, but he has just two assists in his past 11 contests. Mar 21 |
| 5 | Aaron Rome ActiveAaron Rome (knee) returned to action on Thursday. Rome suffered a sprained knee on March 24 and missed 12 days of action. The depth defenseman played 12:09 minutes Thursday with no stats. He is worth a late pick in deeper drafts if you think the Canucks are going deep into the playoffs. Apr 6 |
| 6 | Keith Ballard ActiveKeith Ballard (concussion) has been given the green light to return to the Canucks' lineup. Ballard will probably play in Game 2 of Vancouver's first round series on Friday. He has been out since Feb. 7. Apr 13 |
| 7 | Andrew Alberts ActiveAndrew Alberts was moved to the fourth line from the blueline for Thursday's game against Detroit. Alberts was originally scheduled to be a healthy scratch but when Christopher Higgins was unable to go due to the flu, Alberts drew into the lineup. He played only 2:47 minutes and saw no action in the third or overtime period. Feb 3 |
| 8 | Marc-Andre Gragnani ActiveMarc-Andre Gragnani will be a healthy scratch Saturday night against the Blue Jackets. He will sit in the press box with Andrew Alberts and give way to Aaron Rome, who will dress for the first time in four games. Bench Gragnani for Saturday only as there is a very good chance he will play in at least eight of Vancouver's last 12 games. If he does not play in at least eight more games this season, he will become a free agent, an outcome the Canucks will surely seek to avoid. Mar 17 |
| 9 | Chris Tanev ActiveChris Tanev was recalled from the minors on Thursday. Tanev was called up with the injury to defenseman Keith Ballard. He had 14 assists in 34 games with the Chicago Wolves. He has no fantasy value. Feb 17 |
| G | 1 | Roberto Luongo ActiveVancouver GM Mike Gillis said that having Roberto Luongo in a Canucks uniform next season is a distinct possibility. Gillis stated this earlier in the week on Hockey Night in Canada radio. It had been assumed that the Canucks would do everything in their power to move Luongo off the roster and anoint Cory Schneider as the number one netminder. "Having both goalies back in Vancouver next year is definitely a possibility and probably the leading possibility," Mike Liut, Schnieder’s agent, told the Vancouver Province. "Cory will approach the season as he did this year — you focus on what you can control." Stay tuned as this saga is far from over. May 20 |
| 2 | Cory Schneider ActiveCory Schneider will become a restricted free agent this summer. If the Canucks follow through with the trading of Roberto Luongo then Schneider gains a great deal of negotiating power. He probably has that already though because if the contract goes to arbitration then he could be one year away from unrestricted free agency. TSN's Darren Dreger reports that Schneider will likely be seeking a deal in the neighborhood of four years at $4 million per season. Apr 26 |
