You know, I think the first game in Chicago, we didn’t really have too much time to think about anything. Maybe that was a good thing with Tyler coming in. Chicago’s not an easy place to play. Toffoli said the decision is up to the team and he'll play wherever he's needed. Coach Darryl Sutter wasn't prepared to commit to anything. "Plan is to get him stronger first. Then see if he's a good winger in the American Hockey League or a winger in the National Hockey League," Sutter said. "That will be the first step." Doughty played on the bad ankle throughout the Western Conference Final and although he averaged 27:57 minutes per game, he was held off the scoresheet and was minus-six in the five game series. The Kings did not release financial terms, but multiple media outlets reported it is worth $25 million. Voynov was scheduled to be a restricted free agent on July 5 but eschewed the open market and an offer from his hometown team in the KHL to re-up long term with the Kings. The $4.17 million annual salary probably didn't hurt, either. With that, the Los Angeles Kings have been eliminated by the Chicago Blackhawks in five games. Quick wasn't perfect in the Western Conference finals, but he did play well enough beat Chicago. The blame lies more with the Kings' offense, which was subpar for most of the playoffs. Taking a step back and looking at the playoffs as a whole, Quick was phenomenal and that will give us more confidence to recommend taking him early on in 2013-14 fantasy drafts despite his mediocre numbers in the regular season. | 2 | Jonathan Bernier ActiveSportsnet's Nick Kypreos believes the Toronto Maple Leafs could trade for Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Bernier because of the presence of new MLSE president Tim Leiweke. As a former AEG exec, Leiweke had a strong hand in turning around the Kings before leaving and taking the president job at Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment. With Jonathan Quick firmly entrenched as the Kings' starting goalie, Bernier is expected to be traded this summer. The former first-round pick has already been linked to the Flyers -- who Kypreos cites as the other possible destination -- but the Leafs make a lot of sense, too. The Roberto Luongo rumors in Toronto haven't slowed down in a year and it's clear the Leafs are looking to at least find someone to compete with James Reimer in net. Bernier is obviously much younger than Luongo and would be much cheaper in terms of contract, but the pending RFA would also come at a higher cost in a trade or via offer sheet this summer. Jun 18 |
