| Pos | Role | Name |
| C | 1 | Mark Letestu ActiveMark Letestu has five goals in his last nine games. The former Pittsburgh Penguin had gone goalless in his previous 15 games before the breakout. He has 10 goals and 21 points in 55 games this season with a minus-four rating and a measly four penalty minutes. Mar 26 |
| 2 | Derick Brassard ActiveDerick Brassard has two goals and five points in his last four contests. Brassard has been good since the All-Star break with 21 points in 28 games. He is a sleeper candidate for the 2012-13 campaign, but if the Blue Jackets trade Rick Nash as expected, then drafting Blue Jackets players will be a big risk. Mar 29 |
| 3 | Derek MacKenzie ActiveDerek MacKenzie (concussion) is working out again and should be ready for the start of the 2012-13 season. MacKenzie missed the last 16 games of the season after being hit by Chris Summers of the Coyotes on March 3. He passed his baseline test but it was decided that he would remain on the sidelines for the remainder of the season. "I felt pressure to keep playing, given my contract situation and the fact that I hadn’t missed a game to that point," MacKenzie said. "At first, I didn’t even want to say the word concussion. But, in talking to people and the team docs, we decided to play it safe. It’s not a groin. It’s your head. If you have a symptom, you’re out." MacKenzie is an unrestricted free agent on July 1 but look for the Blue Jackets to re-sign him before that. He has little to no fantasy value. May 10 |
| 4 | Darryl Boyce ActiveDarryl Boyce made his Columbus Blue Jackets debut on Tuesday. Boyce had no points or shots on goal in 8:27 minutes of playing time. He also finished the game with a minus-one rating. Boyce has no fantasy value in standard leagues. Feb 29 |
| LW | 1 | Vaclav Prospal ActiveVaclav Prospal had a goal and an assist in a 5-1 victory Friday. Mark Letestu scored his ninth goal of the season. Derick Brassard registered three assists, giving him 35 points in 66 contests. Jack Johnson and Nikita Nikitin each recorded assists on two of Columbus' five goals. Mar 23 |
| 2 | Kristian Huselius I.L.Interim coach Todd Richards said he does not expect Kristian Huselius (groin) to return this season. Huselius played all of two games in December for his only action this season. It’s been one thing after the other the past two years for the 33-year-old Swede. He missed two months last season – a year in which he played only 39 games -- due to a high ankle sprain and while recovering from that injury he hurt his groin, which has not been right since. Mar 6 |
| 3 | R.J. Umberger ActiveR.J. Umberger saw his three-game goal scoring streak come to an end Tuesday. Umberger had five goals and six points in that span. He had six shots on goal, but Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith turned aside a staggering 54 shots to shutout the Columbus Blue Jackets. Apr 4 |
| 4 | Colton Gillies ActiveCoach Todd Richards has been impressed with the play of Colton Gillies. Gillies received a bit of a break when the Blue Jackets named Richards as the new head coach once they fired Scott Arniel as Richards was the head coach of the Wild the last two seasons, the organization Gillies played for before he was claimed off waivers a couple of weeks ago. Richards loved one game Gillies played last season for him in a 5-0 loss to the Canucks. "He was all over the ice in that game, around the puck all night, and that’s what I think he was like (on Wednesday against the Kings when he scored his first goal of the season)," Richards said. "The way he worked away from the puck to get the puck was really good on his part. You can see his feet and his aggressive play, being the first guy in on the forecheck, playing the body and creating turnovers. That’s what I’ve liked about his game since he’s been here, but especially on Wednesday." Feb 3 |
| 5 | Ryan Russell ActiveRyan Russell has agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with Columbus. He was acquired from Montreal in exchange for forward Mike Blunden last summer and split between the Jackets and their AHL affiliate in Springfield during the 2011-12 campaign. Russell had two goals in 41 NHL appearances in his first taste of big-league action. May 24 |
| RW | 1 | Rick Nash ActiveDon't expect a decision to be made on Blue Jackets interim head coach Todd Richards for at least another week. The NHL-worst Blue Jackets finished with a 29-46-7 record and went 18-21-2 under 45-year-old Richards. It appears that general manager Scott Howson wants to see what goes on early in the playoffs before making any sort of decision, though. Columbus has made the playoffs in one of its 11 seasons. Apr 17 |
| 2 | Ryan Johansen ActiveRyan Johansen is thrilled to be playing center again. Johansen has played in the middle the last four games. He has been a healthy scratch on many an occasion this season and wasn't comfortable even when he was back in the lineup as he was playing on the wing. He centered Derek Dorsett and Colton Gillies Saturday. I’m 100 percent more comfortable (at center)," Johansen said. "The first game and a half I felt off a little bit, but it has started to come back to me. I’ve started to feel like myself." Do not forget about him next season as he is only 19. Mar 18 |
| 3 | Cam Atkinson ActiveColumbus forward Cam Atkinson is worth looking at in deeper pools in 2012-13 fantasy drafts. The scoring winger was named to Team USA at the World Championships after playing only 27 games for the Blue Jackets, scoring seven times and adding an equal amount of assists. "Cam is a perfect fit," Team USA’s director of hockey operations Jim Johannson said. "He skates well. He has some offensive ability. When put in situations to be more offensive, he’s had success at every level. This is that next challenge. In my experience, he’s got the makeup of a guy who would play well in this tournament." Don't overlook him next season as he had back-to-back 30 goal seasons for Boston College his last two years before turning pro prior to this campaign. May 6 |
| 4 | Derek Dorsett ActiveDerek Dorsett's newly signed three-year contract is worth $4.9 million. Dorsett will make $1.5 million next season, $1.4 million in 2013-14 and $2 million in the final campaign of the deal. That's a $1,633,333 million annual cap hit and represents a sizable jump from the $575,000 he made in 2011-12. Dorsett is mostly know for the physical presence he provides and his fantasy value comes from the massive amount of penalty minutes he accumulates. May 24 |
| 5 | Jared Boll ActiveJared Boll netted just his second goal of the season on Saturday. Boll had been goalless since Nov. 23. "It felt good. It’s been a while. That big loss in Detroit kind of really woke guys up," Boll said. He gets a ton of penalty minutes, but his nearly complete lack of offensive production makes him unappealing in most fantasy leagues. Apr 2 |
| D | 1 | James Wisniewski ActiveJames Wisniewski (concussion) will be able to return on Tuesday. Wisniewski has 24 points and 35 penalty minutes in 45 games this season. He hasn't played since March 18th. If someone in your league dumped him thinking that he wouldn't be back in 2011-12, Wisniewski might provide you with a bit of a boost in the final days of the regular season. Apr 2 |
| 2 | Jack Johnson ActiveJack Johnson was a plus-five in 21 games with the lowly Columbus Blue Jackets after his trade from Los Angeles. This is a surprise as Johnson was minus-85 for the Kings in his almost five seasons in Southern California with a minus-12 best season this year for Los Angeles. To go from a minus-player for a much better team and become a plus-player with a cellar-dweller is hard to believe but Johnson accomplished the feat. Look for Johnson to become a 50-plus point defenseman in Columbus but do not expect a positive plus-minus next season. May 18 |
| 3 | Fedor Tyutin SidelinedFedor Tyutin could be out for the rest of the season after he sustained a broken right hand on Tuesday night. "He finished the game with a broken hand," coach Todd Richards said. "It happened in the third period. It was a point shot that hit him but he continued to play." Tyutin is a key player on the Blue Jackets' defense corps. He is second among the team's blueliners in points with 26, thanks to Jack Johnson's arrival, and he is second on the club in average ice time per game at 24:08. Mar 8 |
| 4 | Nikita Nikitin ActiveNikita Nikitin scored two goals and registered an assist in a 4-1 victory Friday. R.J. Umberger accounted for the Blue Jackets' other two goals. Derick Brassard, Cam Atkinson, Mark Letestu, Vinny Prospal, Rick Nash, Derek Dorsett, and Ryan Johansen each registered an assist for Columbus. Mar 30 |
| 5 | Aaron Johnson ActiveAaron Johnson led the way with eight of Blue Jackets 34 blocked shots on Saturday. The Blue Jackets took on the Vancouver Canucks and took great pride Saturday with their shot blocking prowess. "It’s easy to tell, when you look at that stat, about the care and the want," Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards said. "Because if it doesn’t mean anything to you then for the most part you’re getting out of the way. So we did a good job there, but that also shows we probably spent a little too much time in our zone." Mar 18 |
| 6 | John Moore SidelinedJohn Moore (ankle) hopes to return to the Columbus lineup on Saturday. Moore has missed the last three games with the injury. "I have no power on it," Moore said. "It doesn’t feel right. I just have to be able to tolerate (the pain)." He has two goals and five assists in 67 games this season. Apr 6 |
| 7 | Marc Methot ActiveMarc Methot has been suspended for one game for hitting Yevgeni Kovyrshin into the boards on Tuesday in World Championship play. He was ejected from Team Canada's 5-1 win over Belarus on the play and won't be able to play against Slovakia in the quarterfinals on Thursday. 2012 draft prospect Ryan Murray is expected to dress in his place. May 16 |
| 8 | Dalton Prout ActiveThe Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled Dalton Prout from the minors. Prout is a defensive defenseman and will make his NHL debut on Friday. He had four goals and 12 points with Springfield of the AHL this season. Mar 30 |
| 9 | Radek Martinek I.L.Radek Martinek will not return this season because of post-concussion symptoms. The club made the announcement on Thursday night. Martinek has been sidelined since Oct. 21 and thought he would be able to return at some point, but coach Todd Richards said the defenseman suffered a setback. "It's a big blow, obviously, for our team," Richards said. "But your concern, first and foremost, is his health and his functioning as a person. The doctors felt it was in his best interest health-wise to not play again this year." Jan 20 |
| G | 1 | Steve Mason ActiveThe Columbus Blue Jackets wouldn't get into specifics, but it appears likely that Steve Mason's situation will change in some way or another. Columbus beat writer Aaron Portzline discussed all kinds of possibilities: waivers, a trade, a buyout or even Mason becoming a backup. Here's what GM Scott Howson said: "We need better play from that position. I told Steve in our exit interviews (earlier this month) that we’re going to have a different look at that position next year, but that right now, nobody can predict what form that’s going to take." Apr 29 |
| 2 | Curtis Sanford SidelinedCoach Todd Richards said a leg muscle tear will likely shelve Curtis Sanford for the balance of the season. The goalie suffered his injury in the opening period Sunday at Calgary and departed in favor Steve Mason. If indeed Sanford is through, he would finish his season 10-18-4 with a 2.60 GAA and .911 save percentage. Mar 20 |
| 3 | Allen York SidelinedAllen York is dealing with what is believed to be a lower body injury. York was reportedly seen getting around with a slight limp on Saturday. He will not serve as the starting or backup goaltender in the Blue Jackets' season finale on Saturday. Apr 7 |
| 4 | Shawn Hunwick ActiveUndrafted goalie Shawn Hunwick has joined the Columbus Blue Jackets on an amateur tryout agreement. He will back up Allen York on Wednesday night against the Detroit Red Wings due to an injury to starter Steve Mason in the morning skate. Hunwick appeared in 40 games with the University of Michigan this past season, while compiling a 24-12-3 record with a 2.00 GAA and a .932 save percentage. Mar 28 |
