The New York Islanders have reached an affiliation agreement with the Missouri Mavericks of the ECHL, who are based out of Independence, Missouri.
"The Mavericks are a highly-regarded organization with a high-end coaching staff that’s capable of developing players," Islanders GM Garth Snow said. The Mavericks are entering their seventh season in franchise history, and are led by General Manager Brent Thiessen and Head Coach Richard Matvichuk. Matvichuck played 14 NHL seasons mostly with the Dallas Stars, winning the Stanley Cup in 1999. Before joining the ECHL in 2014-15, the Mavericks competed in the now-defunct CHL and made the playoffs in five of their six seasons. They also won the Franchise of the Year award four consecutive seasons (2011-12 to 2013-2014). Said owner Lamar Hunt, Jr., "Our new affiliation with the Islanders includes integration into their scouting system, strength and conditioning program, and training camps." Jun 12 - 11:38 PM
