Nathan MacKinnon is happy that he won't have to worry about the business side of hockey for a while.
MacKinnon has plenty of job security after signing a seven-year, $44.1 million contract on Friday. "It's nice to have security," MacKinnon said. "I know Denver will be my home for the next seven seasons. Obviously, it weighs on you. I've been thinking about it for a long time. Last year, this year, this season, over the summer. So I'm just excited I can finish off my summer training, have a clear head and know where my home will be for the next seven seasons." MacKinnon added that he felt a bridge contract wouldn't have been in his best interests. In a way, both sides are taking a risk with this deal. MacKinnon has left something to be desired over the past two seasons and if he comes out strong in 2016-17 and 2017-18, then he could have probably gotten a massive contract at the end of a bridge deal. That $6.3 million annual cap hit could look very good to Colorado in the not too distant future. Jul 9 - 5:42 AM
