Marcus Pettersson was chosen by the Anaheim Ducks with the 38th overall pick in the 2014 draft.
The Ducks made this selection with Toronto's pick, which was acquired in the Peter Holland deal. The 6-foot-4, 167-pound Pettersson is a project with great upside. He has intriguing tools to become a two-way defenseman at the NHL, it’s just a matter of refining them and gaining the strength to become harder on the puck and more willing to engage physically. The Swedish blueliner plays in all situations, modeling his game after fellow countryman Jonas Brodin. The former center has terrific puck skills and offensive instincts, with great distribution skills and a hard shot. While he is a good skater for his size, his agility could improve. Pettersson’s defensive side needs work, though he is sound positionally and has a long reach. The rearguard tallied 18 points in Swedish juniors, where he was the assistant captain and took on a leadership role. Sat, Jun 28, 2014 11:07:00 AM
