| C | 1 | Jonathan Toews ActiveJonathan Toews has decided against playing for Team Canada in the upcoming World Championship. Toews missed nearly two months due to a concussion before returning on April 12. "For now, the smart play is just to rest and make sure everything is clear and is behind me," Toews said. Apr 26 |
Marcus Kruger ActiveMarcus Kruger played in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss after missing a game due to concussion-like symptoms. Kruger had one shot on goal and was credited with two blocked shots. He logged 19:46 minutes in the losing effort. Mar 28
Dave Bolland Active"Bumps and bruises" won't stop Dave Bolland from returning to the lineup when the Chicago Blackhawks begin their first-round playoff series against the Phoenix Coyotoes on Thursday. Bolland sat out the final two games of the regular season with an upper-body injury, but practiced Monday and says he's ready to reclaim his third-line center role. ‘‘Feel great,’’ he said. ‘‘Just [had some] bumps and bruises, that’s all. ... The playoffs are always a fun time; I always get excited for them. The playoffs are always a big stage, and that’s when people like to show off and play their games.’’ Apr 10
Bryan Bickell ActiveBryan Bickell netted the game-winning goal in overtime in the Chicago Blackhawks' 4-3 win Saturday against the Phoenix Coyotes in Game 2 of their first-round series. Bickell's overtime heroics wouldn't have been possible without the Hawks tying the game with 5.5 seconds remaining via Patrick Sharp's deflection on a Brent Seabrook shot. Bickell also had the game's first goal 3:05 in, while Brandon Bollig recorded his first-ever NHL goal (and point) in his 20th career game. Andrew Shaw had 15 penalty minutes after charging Phoenix goalie Mike Smith and receiving a major and game misconduct in the second period. Chicago now heads home for Games 3 and 4 with the series tied at one. Apr 15
Brendan Morrison ActiveBrendan Morrison hopes to return to playing in the NHL next year, but he isn't sure what's going to happen after a rough 2011-12 season. "This season was a long season as far as trying to get back to full health after knee surgery last year, but I feel good now," he said. "I'm going to prepare like I'm going to play and then we will have to make a decision later in the summer. I don't think anything is going to happen early in the summer, but I'm going to prepare." He was scratched in 21 of Chicago's final 31 regular season games and skated mostly on the fourth line when he did play. Morrison appeared in three playoff contests, but his arrival on the Blackhawks didn't go well after he struggled with Calgary prior to the move. In 39 games between both clubs, he ended up with four goals and seven assists. May 16
Brandon Bollig ActiveBrandon Bollig scored his first NHL goal on Saturday. It was also the first point of Bollig's NHL career. He played 18 regular season games with 58 minutes in the penalty box. Bollig's goal tied the score at two with a nice wrist shot. Bollig's value is still as an enforcer but the goal was a nice present to fantasy owners. Apr 15
| LW | 1 | Patrick Sharp ActivePatrick Sharp scored a goal and four assists in Canada's 7-2 victory over France in the World Championship. Team Canada rebounded nicely after an overtime loss to Team USA. Sharp had 33 goals and 69 points in 74 games this season. May 7 |
Viktor Stalberg ActiveViktor Stalberg sees some benefits to playing in the 2012 IIHF World Championship. Stalberg joined Team Sweden after the Blackhawks got eliminated from the playoffs. "Playing in a tournament like this can help your confidence a little bit and … also give me a chance to play on a bigger ice surface where I have enough time to work on some things," said Stalberg. "You get a little more confidence with the puck and you're able to challenge the players a little bit more. That's something for me that can certainly help going into the summer and figuring out what I need to work on." Stalberg set new career-highs in 2011-12 with 22 goals and 43 points in 79 games. May 12
Andrew Shaw ActiveAndrew Shaw doesn't plan to dramatically change the way he plays over his recently served three-game suspension. "Obviously I’m going to play the same way, maybe stay out of it after the whistles. I have to play between the whistles," Shaw said. "But still have that gritty play." That's not really a surprise. Shaw's appeal is that he plays a very physical game while still being able to serve as a solid secondary scorer. Shaw is a name you'll want to remember for 2012-13 fantasy drafts. Apr 23
Brandon Saad ActiveBrandon Saad made his NHL playoff debut on Thursday. The rookie was recalled by the Blackhawks on Wednesday and saw time with Jonathan Toews and Andrew Brunette while also seeing time on the first power play unit. He had 76 points in 44 OHL games this season and was plus-one in 13:11 minutes. Apr 20
Andrew Brunette ActiveAndrew Brunette might retire this summer. "I'm not sure," said Brunette. "It was a tough year. You don't want to leave this way, but there are times when the game tells you to leave and you don't have a decision. I'm going to let it decompress, come up for air and make some kind of decision." Brunette is 38 and was limited to 27 points in 78 games. He's scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and he's not likely to re-sign with Chicago. Apr 26
Daniel Carcillo I.L.Daniel Carcillo's recently signed two-year extension will give him $825,000 per season. That's just a mild raise on the $775,000 the Blackhawks are paying him this season. A left knee injury has limited Carcillo to 28 games in 2011-12, but when he's healthy next season, he will provide the team with a physical presence and some secondary scoring. Mar 13
| RW | 1 | Patrick Kane ActivePatrick Kane’s actions in Madison, Wis. did not warrant any police action. Kane’s behavior earlier this month has resulted in silence from the Blackhawks’ camp, but team officials could be a little peeved over how their star center’s name keeps popping up for some off-ice issue or another. May 15 |
Marian Hossa SidelinedMarian Hossa is on the mend from a severe concussion that he suffered in the playoffs on a hit by Phoenix's Raffi Torres. "Definitely, it is better," said Hossa, who is back in Slovakia. "But I'm still not feeling like myself. Obviously, it's going to take some time. It's step by step getting a little bit better and that's a good sign." He also said that he expects to be ready for training camp in the fall and that Torres, who was suspended for 25 games for the infraction, contacted him to see how he was doing. May 3
Michael Frolik ActiveMichael Frolik potted a goal, but the Chicago Blackhawks came up short in their 3-2 Game 4 first-round series loss to the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday night. Frolik now has goals in two straight games, after scoring just five times in 63 games in the regular season. His goal at 18:34 of the third period essentially forced overtime. Brendan Morrison had the other marker. Jonathan Toews, Niklas Hjalmarsson, Dave Bolland and Johnny Oduya had the assists. Apr 20
Jamal Mayers ActiveJamal Mayers was a healthy scratch in Game 6 - the third one in a row - after missing just one tilt all season. The veteran had 15 points and 91 penalty minutes in the regular season. ‘‘Obviously, mostly I’m mad at myself for somehow allowing that to happen,’’ Mayers said. ‘‘It’s the time of the year [where] it’s the reason why I signed here, so it certainly is disappointing.’’ Apr 24
Jimmy Hayes ActiveJimmy Hayes was in the lineup for two straight playoff games after playing in 31 games in the regular season. The 22-year-old, 6-foot-6, 221-pound rookie was re-inserted into the lineup to add some toughness, and he certainly fit the bill, tallying 15 penalty minutes in the game. ‘‘It was really fun playing in that game,’’ Hayes said of his playoff debut, which occurred in Game 5. ‘‘You can definitely see it’s faster out there. That’s why you work hard in practice and make sure it carries over.’’ Apr 24
Ben Smith SidelinedBen Smith will undergo season-ending surgery on Thursday to fix a right hip labral tear and hernia. Smith will need 16 weeks to recover so his season is over. He only played 13 games for Chicago scoring a couple of goals and had 15 goals and 31 points in 37 games for Rockford of the AHL before the injury. He should be fine for the start of training camp in September. Mar 9
| D | 1 | Duncan Keith ActiveDuncan Keith will play for Canada at the World Championship in Finland and Sweden this May. He had one assist in six games for Chicago during their first-round playoff series loss to Phoenix. In 74 regular season matches, Keith produced 40 points and a plus-15 rating while averaging 26:53 of ice time per contest. Apr 25 |
Brent Seabrook ActiveBrent Seabrook had the game-winning goal as the Chicago Blackhawks eked out a 5-4 win versus the Nashville Predators on Saturday night. The Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead, then managed to give up four straight goals. Seabrook's ninth came at 8:19 of the third period, and he also had an assist. The 26-year-old has totaled 33 points after 48 last season. Other two-point players included Patrick Kane (goal, assist) and Andrew Shaw (two assists). Patrick Sharp (32nd), Dave Bolland (19th) and Viktor Stalberg (20th) had the other markers. Mar 31
Nick Leddy ActiveNick Leddy scored the tying goal Saturday as Chicago defeated Phoenix 2-1 in overtime. Leddy's first playoff goal of his NHL career sent the game into overtime and Jonathan Toews provided the winner as the series will now return to Chicago for Game 6 with the Blackhawks trailing three games to two. Leddy has had a good playoff thus far with two assists to go with his goal. He has a lot of offensive upside and should be definitely drafted in the middle rounds next season. Apr 22
Niklas Hjalmarsson ActiveLook for Niklas Hjalmarsson to skate with Brent Seabrook on the Hawks' number one defensive pairing. He will take the place of the suspended Duncan Keith and team with Seabrook on the team's number one shutdown unit. Although this is a great opportunity for Hjalmarsson, we are not sure it is a great thing for his plus/minus rating. Mar 25
Johnny Oduya ActiveThe Chicago Blackhawks are interested in re-signing Johnny Oduya. Oduya is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after being acquired on Feb. 27. "He came in at a time when the team needed some experience and some veteran presence and also somebody who could eat up some minutes," Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman said. "He was an important part of that stretch run, so we're very interested in continuing to talk to his group about where he fits in with our team next year." Oduya had 18 points and 33 penalty minutes in 81 games with Chicago and Winnipeg in 2011-12. Apr 26
Steve Montador SidelinedSteve Montador is progressing from his concussion according to coach Joel Quenneville. Montador is scheduled to skate in the next few days as he has missed 27 of the Blackhawks last 28 games. There is still no timetable for his return. Apr 13
Sami Lepisto ActiveSami Lepisto drew into the Chicago lineup on Saturday after being a healthy scratch in Game 1. Lepisto replaced Sean O'Donnell on the Chicago blueline but played only 4:25 minutes in the Blackhawks 4-3 overtime win. He could remain in the Chicago lineup for Game 3 Tuesday as it is unlikely that coach Joel Quenneville will tinker with a winning lineup. Apr 15
Sean O'Donnell ActiveSean O'Donnell was a healthy scratch in Game 2. O'Donnell was minus-two in the series opener and joined Michael Frolik, Brendan Morrison, Dylan Olsen and Jimmy Hayes in the press box. Just an FYI. Apr 15
| G | 1 | Corey Crawford ActiveOne of the questions the Blackhawks have to answer this offseason is whether Corey Crawford truly is the No. 1 guy between the pipes. In all, the netminder had a disappointing season, before turning it on in March and April and then struggling again in the postseason. He finished with a 2.72 goals-against average and .903 save percentage in the regular season - and a 2.58 GAA/.893SV% in the playoffs. "You never want to finish a year with a loss; you want to go out with a win," Crawford said. "I thought we had a strong enough team to do that. You look at that game tonight. We definitely could have won that one. It just didn’t go our way." Crawford still has two more seasons left on his contract. Apr 24 |
Ray Emery ActiveRay Emery has agreed to a one-year/$1.15 million contract extension with the Chicago Blackhawks. Although Emery hasn't lived up to our expectations this season, he is a solid backup. We also wouldn't completely dismiss the possibility of him bouncing back in 2012-13 and end up stealing the starting job. Apr 7
