Tottenham Hotspur cruised through to the fourth-round of the FA Cup on Friday night crushing League Two opponents Tranmere Rovers 7-0 at Prenton Park.
The game marked the return of Serge Aurier who had missed the previous month with a groin strain and it was the right-back who opened the scoring five minutes before half-time. Mauricio Pochettino named a strong side which included a host of regular first-team starters although it was Fernando Llorente who grabbed the headlines with a second half hat-trick to maintain his excellent goal scoring record in the competition (6-goals in six appearances). Erik Lamela was a noticeable absentee despite his recovery from a minor calf strain. The Argentine had fallen ill during the build-up, but he should be in contention to face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final next week. The Tottenham treatment room is slowly beginning to clear and it won’t be long before Mousa Dembele (ankle) and Jan Vertonghen (thigh) are back in Pochettino’s plan having re-joined the squad in training.
