Manuel Lanzini is on the road to recovery following knee surgery in Barcelona on Thursday evening.
The Hammers playmaker ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during training with the national side just six days before the start of the World Cup finals. "I received a pass from Marcos Rojo and tried to give it to Javier Mascherano who was behind me," he said. "When I turned, I didn’t set my foot firmly on the ground and all my weight fell on my knee. I knew instantly that it was going to be very bad." Initial reports suggested that he could miss the entire 2018/19 Premier League campaign, although updates since say the damage is not as serious as first thought. Lanzini was operated on by world-renowned surgeon Dr Ramon Cugat and spent the night at Hospital Quirón. New head of medical at West Ham – Richard Collinge – is expected to travel to Spain on Friday to discover the full extent of the problem. Jun 15 - 5:17 AM
