Sunderland ran out deserved winners against Hull City 3-0 at the stadium of light however the scoreline may be a bit harsh on Phelan's men.
Jermaine Defoe opened the scoring with a great finish after Watmore flicked on to open up the Hull defence in the first real relegation 6 pointer of the season and 1-0 it remained going into the interval. Irony struck first in the second half as darkness reigned supreme for a while as the match was delayed due to floodlights failing. However, when the lights came back on, the Black Cats struck again, this time through Anichebe, who scored for the second game in a row for the first time in his career. Snodgrass went especially close with a bicycle kick as the Tigers pushed to get back into the game but Pickford was equal to everything sent his way, earning his first ever PL clean sheet and Sunderland's first this season. Anichebe rounded off his brace late on with a powerful finish. The only blight on the game from Sunderland's point of view was Djilobodji's very late and needless red card. Nov 19 - 12:13 PM
