What looked to be three easy points on paper turned into an upset as West Bromwich Albion scored a late winner to edge past a frustrated Tottenham side in a 1-0 final at The Hawthorns.
This had the makings of a trap game for Spurs, but they were a bit unlucky to find the net on a few occasions. A pair of chances came in quick succession around the half hour mark, but Harry Kane was unable to take advantage of a slick ball from Kieran Trippier and had his shot saved. Moments later, Christian Eriksen sent a ball the striker's way but Kane's header was off target. It seemed at the very minimum, Spurs would see out a goalless draw, as West Brom did not threaten the other end nearly as much, but fortunes turned with about five minutes to go when Jan Vertonghen had to be removed with an injury. Tottenham would then give up the match winner in stoppage time to a former Lilywhite, Jake Livermore. Vertonghen's availability for the remainder of the season is in doubt and hopefully will recover in time for the World Cup. May 5 - 12:26 PM
