Liverpool legend and key figure for the England international team over the last two decades, Steven Gerrard has officially announced his retirement from professional football.
After as single season in the MLS playing for LA Galaxy, there was rumor of Gerrard making a return to Liverpool. He may just find himself back at Anfield but it would be in a coaching or front office position. Gerrard made his Reds debut in 1998 and, while Liverpool failed to win a title during his career, he did help lead the club to three runner-up finishes in the Premier League, most recently in 2013/14, and led the led the club to eight major trophies. He earned 114 caps for the Three Lions, placing him fourth all-time on that list. He totaled 141 goals in 618 appearances combined for club and country. He brought a workman's like approach to the game, playing as a box-to-box midfielder capable of scoring and assisting while operating as the field general and ambassador for the sport. A management role is likely to come his way in the not-too-distant future and he was already linked with MK Dons for that very gig. Thu, Nov 24, 2016 06:53:00 AM
