Southampton beat West Brom 2-1 on Saturday to book a place in the last eight of the FA Cup and will face the winner of Manchester City's encounter with Wigan.
In a week packed with off-field turmoil for their opponents, Southampton were tested by a decent second half performance from the Baggies. They had taken a 1-0 lead into the interval courtesy of Wesley Hoedt. The centre-back was left unmarked by very poor defending for a JWP corner and calmly finished past Ben Foster. Serbia playmaker Dusan Tadic made it two on 56', completing a counter attack with a fine chip. WBA pushed on thereafter and Solomon Rondon pulled them back into the tie. Unfortunately for them they couldn't find a second to force a replay even though Hegazi did go close when he hit the bar with a volley and Rondon's follow-up was cleared off the line. Alan Pardrew could be satisfied with the commitment shown by his players in defeat, but they'll need to convert those efforts into league results soon if they are to avoid the drop. Feb 19 - 5:44 AM
