Newcastle United showed some positive signs at times in their match against Liverpool, but a lack of finish and a red card for Moussa Sissoko led to their fifth straight loss.
It looked like the same old song for the Magies when Raheem Sterling cut through the defense like a knife through hot butter in the opening 10 minutes to give the Reds the initial advantage, but credit to the Magpies for not immediately throwing in the towel. They kept the deficit at one for the remainder of the half and began to put pressure on the Reds goal. Ayoze Perez was lively on the ball and Mehdi Abeid of all people was the biggest threat, getting two big chances to equalize but he came up empty. Frustration was building for Sissoko in the second half and a scuffle with Glen Johnson lingered as he would commit a challenge so reckless, he was headed for the showers before a red card was even brandished. It is becoming a broken record in saying this, but the Magpies should have enough points already to stay up but it would sure be good for morale to get a positive result before the finish line.
