England manager Gareth Southgate has dismissed any suggestion of a ‘Club versus Country’ row as "nonsense" ahead of the upcoming friendlies against Germany and Brazil.
The injury ravaged Three Lions squad has seen several high-profile withdrawals this week, but Southgate insists he was "absolutely" satisfied that all the players were genuinely injured. "Harry Kane and Harry Winks were scanned, our medical department reviewed, and there is no way they're available for our two games. Spurs might risk them for the Arsenal game, that's a different matter." The pair were quickly joined by Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson [thigh] while Manchester City duo Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph returned to the Etihad Campus to have respective back and calf injuries assessed. Pep Guardiola will be hoping neither injury is too serious, and in particular Delph, who has been providing cover for long-term absentee Benjamin Mendy in recent weeks. Pochettino on the other hand has already confirmed Harry Kane will be available for the north London derby at Arsenal after the international break. Nov 9 - 5:41 AM
