Swansea City are trending in the wrong direction, losing to Southampton 3-1, with a late penalty conversion by Gylfi Sigurdsson accounting for their lone goal.
After firing blanks in their previous two league contests, only a penalty by Sigurdsson managed to end their scoring drought, and it came with the match already in hand for the Saints. Bafetimbi Gomis, who was impressing every weekend in the season's first month, failed to even get a shot off, and was replaced at halftime. The goal came with under 10 minutes to play, when Jose Fonte brought down Neil Taylor in the area, allowing the Icelandic dead ball specialist a chance to grab his first goal of the season. Its been a relatively drama-free tenure for Garry Monk in his one year and change as manager, but he has a problem on his hands right now and it won't get any easier with a surging Tottenham next on their plate.
