Jordan Henderson has become the latest player to withdraw from Gareth Southgate’s injury-ravaged England squad.
The Liverpool captain missed the 4-1 win at West Ham after complaining of discomfort in his thigh after training on Friday, and following tests by the England medical department, it was agreed that Henderson would return to Melwood for further treatment. In addition to Harry Winks [ankle] and Harry Kane [knee], the Three Lions have also lost Manchester City duo Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph to respective back and calf injuries. But despite the crisis, Jack Wilshere is still being overlooked, with Southgate choosing instead to call-up midfielders Jack Cork from Burnley and Jake Livermore [West Brom]. None of the injured quintet are believed to be serious and should be back in contention when the Premier League fixtures resume on November 18. There was better news regarding Chelsea defender Gary Cahill who has been passed fit after picking up a slight knock during the 1-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday. Nov 7 - 5:02 PM
