Queens Park Rangers survival hopes have been dealt a massive blow with the news that leading scorer Charlie Austin and defensive stalwart Richard Dunne both left Loftus Road on crutches following the last gasp defeat to Southampton on Saturday.
Interim manager Chris Ramsey confirmed the duo would be assessed over the next 24/48 hours while a scan would confirm the extent of the injuries. Early reports suggest Dunne suffered a knee ligament strain – possible ACL which would end his season – while Austin may have broken a bone in his foot. With the transfer window now firmly closed the Hoops will need to rely on a host of inconsistent fringe players – Mauro Zarate [fitness], Bobby Zamora [hip / pelvic problems], Adel Taarabt [temperament] and Rio Ferdinand [ongoing muscular issues] – during the interim to help steady the ship if Rangers hope to move clear of the relegation zone.
