Sunderland need nothing short of a miracle to remain in the top-flight following a comprehensive 3-0 defeat by Manchester United at the Stadium of Light.
Following United's opening goal on 30 minutes by Zlatan Ibrahimović, a difficult afternoon was made even more problematic after an injury to left-back Bryan Oviedo and the sending-off of Seb Larsson, both before the break. The January signing from Everton pulled up immediately following a clearance, signalling to the bench that his hamstring had gone. Although the Black Cats should have a better idea of its severity over the next 24-48 hours, an initial timeline of around three weeks has been placed on the defender. Fortunately, John O’Shea should return next weekend following the death of his father and David Moyes could revert to a back three with Jason Denayer and Lamine Kone. The Sunderland boss will also review video footage of Larsson’s tackle on Ander Herrera, which resulted in a red card, before deciding whether to appeal his dismissal. Apr 9 - 2:51 PM
