A glorious first half stoppage time goal by Jermain Defoe was all Sunderland needed to grab three points in the Tyne-Wear derby, as Dick Advocaat picked up his first win as manager in the 1-0 final.
What a weekend for the bottom of the table as Sunderland, Leicester and QPR all picked up wins and made things very interesting indeed as we enter the final weeks. And what a weekend for fantastic goals as Defoe adds his name to a long list of memorable strikes. He struck a curving, dipping volley with absolute precision from just outside the box and all Tim Krul could do was grab at air. The Black Cats were the better side throughout as Defoe and Connor Wickham were on the ball and creating chances regularly. Luckily for them, they were up against a Magpie side that simply aren't a goal threat without Papiss Cisse. Sunderland will look to build off the long-awaited win and try to stay above the relegation zone as the season wears down. Apr 5 - 1:07 PM
