Texans signed Notre Dame RB Cierre Wood.
Wood was a rotational back throughout his career, tallying 2,447 yards and 16 touchdowns on 450 carries (5.44 YPC). He caught 52 passes. Wood ran a 4.56 forty with a 1.53 ten-yard split at the Combine, the latter time confirming his short-area burst. Wood runs frustratingly small for his size -- he'll dance in the backfield and is poor in short yardage -- but is creative and laterally elusive with quick feet. He's got an outside chance to develop into an NFL asset. Arian Foster's backup, Ben Tate, will be a free agent after this season.

Lance Zierlein of the Sideline View believes Notre Dame RB Cierre Wood would be a terrific fit on a zone blocking team in the later rounds.
Wood declared early for the draft but likely won't be selected prior to the third day. He isn't the flashiest player in terms of straight-line speed, but Wood makes decisive cuts once finding a lane to attack.

NBC Sports Irish blogger Keith Arnold anticipates Notre Dame RB Cierre Wood weighing in at close to 220 pounds at February's Combine.
For a back with explosive run skills both laterally and vertically, it's a nice weight. Wood is also expected to measure in at around 6-foot-even. Arnold does note that Wood has red flags on his resume, losing the lead running back job in South Bend to Jonas Gray as a sophomore and Theo Riddick as a junior. He also nearly cost Notre Dame a game this past season with an overtime fumble against Pitt. In addition, Wood was suspended the first two games of 2012 for an undisclosed violation of team rules. He's got a lot of question marks.

Notre Dame RB Cierre Wood will forgo his senior season and enter April's NFL Draft.
Although he played second fiddle to Theo Riddick in Notre Dame's 2012 backfield, the more elusive Wood has a superior NFL skill set because he moves so fluidly and can explode laterally, whereas Riddick is more of a straight-line power back who will be undersized in the pros. Wood's running style reminds of LeSean McCoy, and he is also smooth in the pass game. Wood indicated that he received a projection of no higher than the third round from the NFL Draft Advisory Board. He could be a mid-round steal in April's draft.
