Colorado announced junior Connor Wood as the starting quarterback on Monday.
Wood (6-foot-4, 225-pounds) will lead the Buffs into Sunday's opener against rival Colorado State in the Rocky Mountain Showdown at Mile High Stadium. True freshman Sefo Liufau will function as Wood's backup. Wood transferred from Texas to Colorado in 2011 and started one game in 2012 (he appeared in seven). Colorado is praying for stability at the sport's premier position after an offseason of attrition: Jordan Webb tore his ACL in spring practice and both Nick Hirschman and Shane Dillon transferred post-spring. Offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren said Wood "throws a nice deep ball and has a little stronger arm than some of the other guys, but some of them are a little more accurate on some of the underneath stuff."
