Transfer Jacob Karam appears to have the upper hand in winning the Tigers’ QB competition.
Taylor Reed had a nice freshman season under Larry Porter in 2011. He started nine games and threw for 1,690 yards with 10 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions. The problem was Reed’s 10 TDs were the only scoring passes Memphis had on the season and three quarterbacks combined to have a pass efficiency rating that ranked 109th. The position needed a boost under first-year coach Justin Fuente and Karam, a Texas Tech transfer and a graduate student with two years of eligibility remaining, could help. He threw only 18 passes in two seasons with the Red Raiders, but Karam appears to have the edge over Reed as spring drills wrap up in Memphis. Mon, Apr 2, 2012 12:38:00 PM
