Giants selected Oklahoma WR Sterling Shepard with the No. 40 overall pick in the 2016 draft.
The Giants had to add a pass-catching complement for Odell Beckham, and Shepard was one of the best receiver prospects available. Shepard (5'10/194) made 41 starts for the Sooners, parlaying 233 career catches into 3,482 yards (14.9 YPR) and 26 touchdowns. He was voted first-team All-Big 12 by the conference's coaches as a senior. Shepard confirmed his explosive athleticism in Indy, running 4.48 with a 41-inch vertical and 10-foot-3 broad jump. Identified as the draft's best route runner by noted WR guru Matt Harmon, Shepard has been compared to Julian Edelman and Wes Welker. He has all the traits of a high-volume inside-the-numbers pass catcher. Apr 29 - 7:57 PM
