49ers selected LSU SS Eric Reid with the No. 18 overall pick.
The 49ers traded up for Reid, sending the Nos. 31 and 74 overall picks to the Cowboys. Reid (6-1, 213) made 29 starts in LSU's secondary, recording 4.5 career tackles for loss and six interceptions. A straight-linish strong safety type, Reid displays stiff hips and takes too many poor tackling angles on film. He is a high-character prospect with great work ethic. Reid ran 4.53 in Indy with highly explosive jumps, reaching 40.5" in the vertical and 11-foot-2 in the broad. While Reid offers upside, he's going to struggle in one-on-one NFL coverage situations. He'll try to fill the shoes of first-team All-Pro Dashon Goldson, who signed with the Bucs in free agency.

Some teams have red flagged LSU S Eric Reid due to "bad shoulders," according to Packers beat writer Bob McGinn.
McGinn went on to mock Reid to the Bengals. The link makes sense, because the Bengals have a need at the position and tend to drift towards prospects from bigger schools. They recently held a workout with FIU safety Johnathan Cyprien, however.

DallasCowboys.com writer Bryan Broaddus believes the team's decision makers prefer LSU S Eric Reid over FIU S Johnathan Cyprien.
If the top two guards and top three defensive tackles are off the board, the Cowboys will likely decide between Reid, Kenny Vaccaro and Sylvester Williams. We think it would be a mistake to select Reid over Cyprien, but as unfair as it might be, some teams do value the level of consistent competition a prospect played against.

NFL.com's Bucky Brooks writes that LSU S Eric Reid will be a star as a rookie in the pros.
"He is a bright defender who can handle the responsibility of controlling the back end," Brooks writes. "Most importantly, Reid is an athletic freak with the size, speed and agility to thrive as a centerfielder in the deep middle. Given the increased frequency of balls thrown between the hashes in the NFL, Reid's overall game and football intelligence will help him become a star as a rookie starter." Reid is physical specimen but frequently slow reading the game in our opinion.
