Bengals selected Georgia SS Shawn Williams with the No. 84 overall pick.
Williams made 30 starts for Georgia, playing strong safety across from FS Bacarri Rambo. Williams logged 10.5 tackles for loss, and four career picks. He is a run-support maven lacking fluidity and ball skills, but helped himself with a 4.46 forty at the Combine. Williams should have little trouble making an early impact on kickoff and punt coverage.

National Football Post's Russ Lande writes Georgia DB Shawn Williams could be a 10-year starter in the NFL.
"While Williams was not viewed as the same caliber athlete on film as [Bacarri] Rambo, today he was quicker and decidedly better in all the drills," Lande wrote. "He did surprisingly well in the pedal, turn and run drills and made it look easy changing directions and flipping hips during the positional drills. Combining his strong workout today with his good college career and outstanding character and intangibles, a source at the workout told us that they think Williams could end up being a ten year starter in the NFL."

Scouts Inc.'s Steve Muench lists Georgia senior S Shawn Williams as the top impact player outside of the first-round.
Muench cites Williams' lack of ball skills and average fluidity or quick-twitch movements to match up with slot receivers as reasons he will not be selected in the first-round. The Georgia safety was a vocal leader this season, and does fill the box well against the run. Muench also throws out a comparison of Kam Chancellor for Williams.

Georgia senior S Shawn Williams vented Monday, saying the Bulldogs defense has been playing "too soft" and that certain players are not playing enough.
"We’re just not playing with the same attitude we were last year. I don’t know what it is," Williams said. The senior added that he believes starting sophomore inside linebacker Marlo Herrera should never come off the field. Williams is one of the more underrated safety prospects, but the entire Georgia defense si not playing to their talent level.
