The Sporting News' Chris Kouffman writes that TCU redshirt senior S Sam Carter "surprised observers by being able to stay with receivers in man coverage during one-on-one drills [at East-West Shrine Game practices]."
"Tape study, however, shows that this should not have been a surprise; Carter played a hybrid linebacker-safety position in Gary Patterson’s defense, which regularly put him in man coverage on slot receivers," Kouffman wrote. "It is easy to see why he accumulated four interceptions in 2014." The 6-foot-1, 215-pounder is ranked by CBS Sports as the No. 351 overall prospect, just outside of Round 7 territory. "Scouts also were able to observe his leadership and communication skills, which can only be sensed indirectly on film. Carter's experience as a quarterback — he backed up Andy Dalton and Casey Pachall before moving to the Horned Frogs' secondary — showed through," Kouffman wrote. "Carter read the offense’s alignment and communicated to his teammates loudly, accurately and constantly.
