TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline says many were surprised when he didn't rate Clemson senior edge rusher Vic Beasley as the ACC's best prospect.
"I like Beasley as a player but have my concerns as where he’ll fit at the next level; is he a 3-4 outside linebacker? One-gap defensive end? The history of smallish defensive ends who received huge grades from scouts, as Beasley did in spring meetings, is not good," Pauline wrote. The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder, who had 23 tackles for a loss in addition to 13 sacks in 2013, plans to drop into coverage more often in 2014. "The other day during a twitter conversation I mentioned the names Quentin Moses and Quentin Groves from the past, similar players who were ranked by some scouting services prior to their senior seasons as the top prospects in the nation," Pauline wrote. "That doesn’t pigeon hole Beasley as all prospects should be graded individually but I think he’s as scheme-specific prospect that may not appeal to every team. On film Beasley shows great pass rush skill and the ability to easily change direction then catch ball handlers in backside pursuit." Aug 17 - 1:54 PM
