NFL Media draft analyst Chad Reuter noted that Auburn coaches asked sophomore edge rusher Carl Lawson to "slow down a bit as he recovered [from a torn ACL] in the offseason to ensure that he would return as the same player who showed such promise in 2013."
In Lawson's 2013 campaign, he totaled 20 tackles and four sacks in 10 games, good for freshman All-American honors. All signs have been abundantly positive during August practices, with HC Gus Malzahn labeling the 6-foot-2, 261-pound sophomore "unblockable" after the team's first scrimmage and OC Rhett Lashlee adding that "[none of the offensive linemen] are doing good [when facing off with Lawson]." In Reuter's list of the Top-15 redshirt sophomores in the country, the newly-healed Tiger checked in at No. 3. Aug 29 - 5:18 PM
