ESPN's Steve Muench says that Oregon State senior TE Connor Hamlett "is far from a finished product."
He means it in a good way. "Hamlett [Muench's No. 5 TE] has a slight edge over Iowa State's E.J. Bibbs on my board, and the reason is upside," the analyst wrote. "He gets pushed around at times because he tends to play high and he needs to get stronger at the point of attack. He's never going to be an explosive route runner, but crisper footwork and improving his ability to push around defensive backs would help in terms of his separation skills." Hamlett suffered from two different knee injuries in 2013 and has a wiry lower body. "However, he has the prototypical frame for a Y prospect at 6-7 and 262 pounds," Muench wrote. "He's a big and reliable target who can shield defenders from the ball, and has the potential to develop into a productive red zone target. While he's not much of a threat after the catch, he has the size and enough speed to work the seam." Tue, Oct 21, 2014 07:10:00 PM
