Florida State moved up from No. 4 to No. 3 in the final College Football Playoff standings.
The third-seeded Seminoles have a date with No. 2 Oregon in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day. Jeff Long, the Selection Committee Chair, said the teams ranked 3-6 were extremely close, prompting re-voting and re-visiting. That said, it appears as though Florida State stamped its ticket into the playoff by beating Georgia Tech in the ACC championship game on Saturday, jumping from No. 4 to No. 3. The Seminoles snuck by a number of teams that ranged from mediocre to good (but not elite) this season, a group including Oklahoma State, Clemson, Notre Dame, Louisville, Miami, Boston College, Florida and GTU. While those struggles didn't cost the 'Noles a ticket into the playoffs, it did move them out of a slot in the Sugar Bowl, which is obviously far closer to campus than California's Rose Bowl. That makes for a slightly harder road to a repeat. Dec 7 - 1:41 PM
