ESPN's Adam Rittenberg reports that Northwestern redshirt senior QB Clayton Thorson underwent successful surgery on his torn right ACL.
Rittenberg also writes that there should be an update on his prognosis shortly. The Wildcats starting quarterback tore the ACL in the Music City Bowl. Typically we see a 9-12 month recovery time for this type of injury, which would mean that Thorson would miss the start of the 2018 season. We've seen earlier recoveries, however, so there's at least a chance that the 6-foot-4, 220-pound signal-caller will be ready to play when Northwestern plays Purdue on August 30 in their opener.
