Alabama sophomore QB Tua Tagovailoa revealed that he had planned on transferring had he not played in January's National Championship Game.
"I wanted to leave the school," Tagovailoa explained while talking with Hawaiian middle-schoolers this week. This is not the first time we've heard this story. The first time, it actually came from FAU HC and former Alabama OC Lane Kiffin, who told NBC Sports' Dan Patrick over the winter that Tua would have exited stage left had he not come into the title game versus Georgia. He played like gangbusters after entering the contest. The sophomore signal-caller revealed even more than this, saying that at one point early in the season, he asked his father if his scholarship from USC was still on the table. Tagovailoa said that his parents strongly encouraged him to stick it out in Tuscaloosa. While he missed all but a few spots of practice this spring due to a broken finger sustained right off the bat in March, he should be considered the frontrunner to start for the Tide this fall. He'll need to pull away from Jalen Hurts in August camp, first. May 18 - 12:25 PM
