Washington HC Chris Petersen confirmed offseason speculation that sophomore TE Hunter Bryant earlier underwent knee surgery.
Speculation on a potential surgery for Bryant first began to bubble in early June after he posted -- and then deleted -- a picture on his Instagram which showed his leg heavily wrapped. Petersen would not confirm the procedure in a July radio appearance, but finally came clean on the matter during Pac-12 Media Day on Wednesday. He's hopeful that the 6-foot-2, 245-pounder will be able to return before the end of the upcoming season, but there's no concrete timetable for when he might next see the field. Bryant logged a 22-331-1 receiving line as a true freshman before a left knee injury sidelined him over the final weeks of the past campaign. With him ruled out for the foreseeable future, UW figures to give upperclassman TE Drew Sample and redshirt freshmen Jacob Kizer and Cade Otton close looks in August camp. Sample has experience starting, but even with that factored in, Bryant's loss is a major one for the Huskies. He may well have been their top receiver this season if healthy. Jul 25 - 1:48 PM
