Tiger Woods held on to post a 2-under-par 34-36=70 in the final round THE PLAYERS, winning the championship for the second time and picking up his 78th PGA TOUR title in the process.
Woods was in control for the first 13 holes of the tournament, circling four birdies to just one bogey on his Sunday stroll around TPC Sawgrass. He then stepped on the 14th tee and inexplicably hooked a fairway metal into the water left, leading to a double bogey and bringing a number of competitors back into the fold. He made a nice par on 15 after short-siding himself, and then got up-and-down for birdie out of a greenside bunker on 16. He calmly parred the 17th and 18th holes to finish the week at 13-under 275 before becoming the observer, watching to see if David Lingmerth could birdie the 18th hole for the tie. When the rookie's 61'2" effort failed to find the bottom of the cup, Woods picked up the 40th edition of THE PLAYERS. Lingmerth would three-putt for bogey, giving Woods a two-stroke margin of victory. The world's top-ranked golfer now has four wins in 2013. May 12 - 7:04 PM
