Past champ and World No. 14 Louis Oosthuizen cratered to a 12-over-par 38-45=83 in today's second round of the 145th Open Championship and at 12-over 154, missed the cut by eight strokes.
A total of 81 pros made the cut on 4-over 146 but unlike a regular PGA TOUR event, there is no 54-hole cut. Oosthuizen, the 2010 champion and playoff loser last year, both at St. Andrews, began his 10th appearance with an even-par 71 but went off the rails in a birdie-less second round, squaring five bogeys, one double, and a quintuple bogey-9 at the 11th. The South African's lone par breaker for 36 holes was an ace on the 178-yard, par-3 14th in R1. Back in April, he aced No. 16 at Augusta National, hence becoming the first player in 30 years to make an ace at two different majors in the same year. Joining the 33-year-old with early exits include: 147- two-time champ Ernie Els ... 148- past Troon champs Todd Hamilton, Justin Leonard and Mark Calcavecchia; David Lingmerth ... 149- Shane Lowry ... 150- Hideki Matsuyama ... 151- Paul Casey ... 153- Matthew Fitzpatrick ... 155- Danny Lee ... 158- Scott Piercy.
