Rocco Mediate carded a 4-under-par 33-34=67 in his opening round of the Frys.com Open, finishing two strokes adrift of the clubhouse co-leaders.

Of his five birdies, three found the cup from beyond 11 feet, the longest of which measuring 26'7" at the third hole. He also converted a par save from 10'6" at 11.
