Rickie Fowler settled for a 4-over-par 74 in the final round of the U.S. Open to join a large contingent of players at 7-over 287.
Fowler suffered bogeys on three of the final four holes at Merion to leave with a bit of a sour taste on his tongue. Entering the week, he was one of a few players that had seen this course in competitive play as a member of the 2009 Walker Cup team. Given his 4-0 record in that event, it's little surprise that hung around the leaderboard this week.

Rickie Fowler torched Merion Golf Club for a 3-under-par 67 in the third round of the U.S. Open, improving to 3-over 213 with one round to play.
Fowler began his afternoon on the 11th hole and quickly circled birdies on 13 and 15. Of note, his birdie on the par-4 15th was seven shots better than that of his playing partner, Sergio Garcia. He then gave back a shot on the difficult par-4 fifth, but bounced back with birdies at the par-4 seventh and par-4 10th. It seems he's a little too far back to factor into the outcome of the tournament unless he were to fire a similarly low round in Sunday's finale.

Rickie Fowler carded an even-par 70 in his opening round of the U.S. Open.
Fowler began his round on the 11th hole today. He was birdie-free 2-over then he arrived on the first tee. He then played his last 10 holes in 2-under with five birdies, four of which on par 4s. He added a double bogey and a bogey at holes 5 and 7, respectively, but his last birdie came at No. 10 to sidestep a black number. He signed his card sitting three strokes off the clubhouse lead.

Rickie Fowler returns to Merion Golf Club to play in the U.S. Open.
There are only 13 other players in the field that can say they are returning to compete at Merion, with Fowler's previous venture perhaps the most successful of them all. He led the U.S. squad to a victory in the 2009 Walker Cup at this week's venue, going a perfect 4-0 in his matches.
